Has anyone actually attended both these programs? My d has been at mathcamp the past two summers and is thinking about trying for Ross. How do these programs compare? She enjoys the intensity combined with the zaniness of mathcamp.

I have not attended both so please do not take my advice as fact. I just took a quick read of Mathcamps website and from what I can tell Ross is far more intense. I think that Ross will be a lot more like a college experience in that you have more freedom. I am not sure about the actual curriculum, but it seems that mathcamp gives a broad knowledge of many topics, while Ross goes in very deep but also offers breadth if you seek it out. One important indicator of the what the programs are like comes right in the names. Mathcamp is a CAMP, while Ross is a program. You are going to get a lot more of the camp feel from mathcamp than from Ross. However, this is not to say that Ross is not fun. In fact I don't think it could be more fun, but this is not the "camp" type of fun. I would recommend that your d strongly consider Ross because she will learn a lot and I think its a good idea to try different types of summer programs out instead of staying in just one. I hope this helped even without my strong knowledge of mathcamp. If you have any questions about Ross specifics I can try to answer to the best of my ability.

Thanks for your input. I think Ross would be a great addition to the 2 summers of mathcamp. There's a problem with NY though in that it is required that our students take regents exams during the last week of school. Since this makes our school year run so late, she'd miss the first week of Ross. But I imagine that happens every year. Thanks again for the advice.

Anybody out there done both programs?
