ROTC scholarship chances

Hey everyone, I am interested in joining the military after college and was wondering what the requirements are for earning a rotc scholarship are. I have a 4.0 gpa, am taking 3 AP classes this year (Junior) and have lettered in cross country and track for all 3 years. My only concern is that my extracurriculars are very limited. I haven’t taken the ACT yet but my pre act score was a 27 without studying and I am confident that I can get it up.
It sounds like a great opportunity, I am super disciplined and am willing to do whatever it takes to serve my country.

I am also a girl if that makes a difference.

If anyone has any advice on how to get into the ROTC and possibly get a scholarship that would be great! Thanks so much.

If you contact the ROTC at the college you want to attend, they can give you the specifics. I am NO expert, but here is what I just leaned from the Univeristy of Miami ROTC person. If you commit to ROTC fully before school begins as a freshman, then they will start paying for your tuition, room and board, and give you a $400 monthly stipend. Then you start right when you get there. Their program is 3 days per week of morning PT, one class on Wednesday and one class on Thursday. If you are not sure about making that commitment as a freshman, you can try it out as a freshman and then commit as a sophomore. They will not pay your tuition until you committ. Once you commit, they continue to pay your tuition etc while you maintain the 5 hours per week. After you graduate, you will either commit to 2 years of active duty or 8 years of reserve duty. This is the payback for them paying for your college. Reserve duty is one weekend a month plus 2 weeks a year but you can at least get a regular job, etc. hope that helps! Good luck!

ROTC = Reserve Officer Training Corps
Each branch has their own and the “chances” to get in and requirements vary by branch.
Which ROTC program are you interested in? AFROTC, AROTC, NROTC or NROTC MO
BTW - AFAIK ALL ROTC programs give you the first year without obligation to decide whether ROTC is correct for you…even if you are on a ROTC scholarship.

^That is correct. Even if you have a ROTC scholarship, you don’t have to sign/commit until beginning of soph. year.

My son applied for army rotc scholarship, any idea when students find out if they receive one?

@luckydog - he will find out if he got the scholarship towards the end of this month.

@oneindianamom Do you know which branch of ROTC that was? I was looking into the University of Miami.
