ROTC Schools

We are looking for schools with good ROTC programs. Army seems to be the best option right now because DS has no interest in technical fields. We are in NJ and looking to stay in NJ or surrounding states.

He’s a jr so we are still working on stats but GPA is 3.8 and SAT should come in somewhere in the 1200s based on PSAT scores. Cost will be a factor in the final decision but we are also looking for schools for his scholarship application so it’s not a factor right now.

We will be looking at Rutgers and U Scranton, but need more options. Size of school is not important- most important to him is the strength of the ROTC program.

I used to work with a guy who had gone through the Army ROTC program at UConn, and he thought it served him well.

I know that it is not in the NJ area, but the University of Missouri will be giving free room and board to incoming freshman ROTC scholarship winners. It is for Navy, Army and Air Force. I am pretty sure that Jacksonville (FL) University also gives free room and board for ROTC.

I don’t know much about it, but I know Rowan has ROTC. I went there ages ago and had a friend who was in the ROTC and he’s now a general, so it might be worth a look.

I’m not sure what you mean by strength of the ROTC program. After he commissions no one will care where he graduated from unless it’s one of the academies.

Strength of program meaning size of the program, any recognition, school support, etc. he would prefer to be at a host school with a larger program. thanks all!

Not near NJ, but if you want a strong ROTC program, you should at least look at Texas A&M. Would require a scholarship to be an OOS.

@blueskies12

there are only six ROTC Senior Military Colleges in the country, perhaps you might want to give them a look.
