Rotc

Please expand on any programs (army, air force, navy, marines, national guard ect.) but army has the most interest to me. My planned major is mechanical engineering and i have aspirations of either striving to become a special forces officer or an engineering officer. It would be great if i could get a side by side comparison between the two careers, differences in college experience, difference in military experience, pros and cons to both, as well as difficulty and opportunities. Thank you for any information.

Regarding college… Your experience in the army rotc would be the same regardless of what MOS you are interested in pursuing. You and all other cadets of the school will be doing the same things regardless if you want to be a special forces officer and another student wants to be an armor officer, etc.

So all of your question thats left is differences between the two careers, which you would probably be better of asking on an army website like goarmy.com. Difficulty/opportunity wise though special forces is obviously no cake walk. Many strive to be in it, few actually do. You have got to be in top physical and mental condition.

You aren’t gauranteed a branch/mos.

They are assigned to you after you submit your wish list, after training. You typically get one of your top three choices.

Special Forces Officer isn’t available in your first contract, at least not to my knowledge.

You won’t spend your whole career in a single branch, you will be shuffled around.

thanks for the info, i was just making some generalizations from what i have heard from friends and family. It was very helpful to have it cleared up. And i found some more great information on the branch sites.
