ROTC?

Hello I was wondering if I could join ROTC overweight? I’m currently working on losing lbs. I lost 5lbs so far but I don’t think I’ll make weight by the time fall starts.

Are you on scholarship? Which service? Can you meet the fitness standard beyond weight? How far are you out of standards?

No I’m not on scholarship. I’m not obese. Just about 10 pounds over weight. I can run, do sit ups and I’m working on my push ups. Sits up I have nailed down. Still have to worry about the running and my upper body strength.

I presume ten lbs over limit. Do you tape out? Sorry, I don’t know Army as well as Navy if it’s different. You didn’t say what branch of service so I’m guessing.

If you are not on scholarship, keep pushing. Ten lbs is quite doable if you are exercising and eating healthy. Are you on a solid plan to nail the fitness test? I recommend cross training for the run if you are worried about wear and tear of running every day. You need to run at least 4 days per week and six days cardio. If you can bike or swim the other two it helps. Do speed work once per week. If you don’t know what that is, google it and you will find running plans.

Getting faster is as much applied fitness routine as working hard. Make sure to educate yourself if you haven’t done so already. And pyramids are great for push-ups.

You’ll lose points on the physical assessments but you still need to drop. You can still enroll.
