Hey everyone! I'm attending Stony Brook next year and got assigned to Roth Quad. I saw the web page on the SBU website but wanted to know from people who actually dormed there what they thought of it/ what they've heard about it/ Is the suite style annoying or nice ect...and also I'm going to be a freshman next year and I know that all of the suites have either a kitchen area or a living room area, I was wondering if I'm more likely to get a living room over a kitchen (I think i would prefer that) b/c of my freshman status?!?! Thanks!

I prefer suite style. I personally lived in Hendrix and enjoyed it greatly. The rooms aren’t enormous but the AC definitely helps during hot days. The proximity to the academic mall area is convenient as well. The Roth dining center was completely renovated two years ago and the pond/landscaping was renovated last year.

The only building with in-suite kitchens is Gershwin. Although some freshmen are assigned to this building, it’s usually in high demand and generally spaces fill up quickly from upperclassmen.

Campus Residences keeps a certain percentage of each building available for each incoming freshmen and making them unavailable during room selection, so you’re as likely to be placed in any of the buildings in Roth. Keep in mind that there are five buildings in Roth anyway, so your odds are only about 20% of being placed there anyway.

I believe Gershwin is also 24hr quiet.
