Hooks:
- I moved right smack in the middle of Freshman Year, and my GPA/Rank suffered tremendously because of it, it took me all of frosh year to adapt, and starting sophomore year i was back on track. GPA: (9, 3.6) (10, 4.1) (11, 4.4)
- When I was 6 years old I was hit by a SUV in my old town, after 9 surgeries and lots of pain/suffering I surpassed all of it and didn't give up
- I took/will be taking Physics Honors the summer of 2004 and Pre-calculus Honors the summer of 2005

I've Always taken the most challenging courses offered at my school (i.e all honors if not AP)

I know this is a lot, but if you guys can help me out that would be great! ty =) (btw, not positive if i'm applying ED because of money)

Your chances are great. If you show interest in JHU and crank out great essays and recommendations then you're as good as in.

how do I show interest in JHU, like what should I do to let them know that I want to go to their university?

either through phone or through email ask the admissions office questions about the school. Obviously dont ask them stuff that you can easily find on their site. But maybe you could ask them if theres an FBLA club on campus or something along those lines.

hm, true, but how would I let them know it's me, I mean anyone can call and ask about the university, but how would they keep track that I specifically am interested?

your SAT's MUST go UP!

I think you have an average shot-- to be completely honest.

It's just that you are like every student applying to Hopkins-- perhaps a bit below average.

Good LUCK :)

The other person who's going to Hopkins with me kept in contact with the admissions representative in our area through email. It would also be a good idea to go for a campus visit and arrange for an interview.

Just make sure you don't e-mail them too too much...they'll get annoyed. Always have a legit reason to contact an admissions representative- it's more polite.

if your local area has a college fair, and there happens to be a JHU table. it might be in your best interest to strike up a convo and stuff with the representative there. get your name out and such. the area representative for me happened to be the same person who was at the college fair and she is uber awesome.

ouch i cant imagine how much pain u went through w/ those surgeries.

like palmbeach says, u should try to get ur SATs up.

from my personal experience, interview is iffy. all the schools i had interviews for turned me down... didnt get one for JHU, but I got in.

write some good essays that will give them a good sense of ur personality.

hey, yes i def. know the SATs are low, and there is a blatant reason why, i scored from 2100-2150 on all my practice tests from the collegeboard book and princeton review, and ironically on the day of the test i choked and went down significantly. That's why I plan to make sure that DOES NOT happen again in october, I have all of summer to make sure the score is high and yeah. Also, I will start e-mailing JHU here and there to ask about questions not on the site, and hopefully that will give them an idea that I love their university.

thanks so much everyone that responded =) more comments are welcome!

o btw, about the car accident, it was one thing that has def. changed my life. i mean not to be grotesque, but my entire left ear was cut off, and then they had to do several plastic surgeries and drafting to make a new ear, i also had other operations dealing with my body =/. But the thing is this incident has catalyzed me to do medicine, and knowing that JHU is reknown for their premed, it's the main reason it is one of my top schools.
