roumer

rumor - Someone please clarify this for me because its driving me nuts. I heard they reject most people in January because they already did all of their accepting for the fall. True of false? Do you know anyone that got in January?

Definitely False. I spoke to a few admissions officers and they told me the majority of acceptance letters go out in January, you have nothing to worry about. They dont start reviewing applications until November 1st, so when you actually think about it 2 months to make a decision isn't that long. I'm sure most of the people in this forum should get in.

As a matter of fact, I believe it is somewhat the reverse way, one friend that goes to a different school has a 3.2 unweighted gpa and a 1100 with zero AP's and he got waitlisted, which usually should be someone who is rejected.

that happened this year? and you know this for certain? and also, what si the weighted?

Yes that happened this year.

I don't know anything for certain, I am just quoting what the admissions officers said.

The weighted was a 3.4.

Just because your not accepted by January doesn't mean your chances have dropped, you have just an equal amount of shot of getting in. They take 58% of the kids that apply, and they know that the kids with the high stats are usually just using PSU as a Safety school. One of my friends at my school who is overqualified to attend PSU, who sent in his application in October, still has not received any word yet, however, my other friends who have been accepted, have subpar stats, some even lower than there averages, with little AP's, I wouldnt be worried. I think of the people in this forum should be admitted.

quite a few in our local high school were deferred to Altoona last year - most with GPAs under 3.5. 58% is from two years ago - apps have gone up significantly so it might be different.
We have family in NJ and VA that are still waiting on decisions for their kids (2 boys with GPAs more than 3.5). I think they're holding up on decisions this year but many will come through in Jan. Not the first choice for them anyway...

yea also a few early decision people i know at the ivys had to withdraw their apps, which may help me some. what do u think my chances are with a 3.61 weighted and a 1170, 4 alumni, and i applied summer?

baby you'll get in.

Alumni really doesn't play any effect into admissions for PSU. Your weighted looks pretty good, how many honors and AP classes have you taken? Your SAT is average and Summer should definitely help you out a lot. I think you have good chances of being accepted to PSU University Park for Summer.

ahh i hope so. i have taken 2 jr year and 3 honors . . this year i am taking 2 honors and 1 ap

Best of luck to everyone, hopefully well all get in.
