Nearly 6500 students have been admitted across all colleges and majors. A lot more to come! They haven’t gotten to processing international students yet, it seems.
I noticed that admissions numbers seem to be increasing. The number of first time applicants is up 4.1% over 2016 whereas overall accepted has increased to 42.7℅. Is this normal? To me it seems like a sign of OSU lessening it’s stringency to some degree.
In any case, very exciting! Good luck to all that applied.
Also, I assume that the individuals who were not accepted this round will be reviewed later on? 30,368 applied but only 6,557 were admitted. Are those who applied but were not admitted denied or are they kept for a different batch of application reviews? Otherwise this sets the new acceptance rate at about 21.4℅
@osuprof you mean 6500 have been admitted from this past Friday November 18th? Wow, how many apps did they get for freshman admissions this year do you think? (Ex. 35,000 apps) And of that number how many are selected? I know of the number selected for admissions of course not all enroll.
@beastbro 42% increase over the number at this point last year just means that they have processed applications a bit faster. I do not see 42% increase in the final number of acceptances – no way they can accomodate a substantially larger class than 7800 they had in Fall 2016.
@artsyg They had nearly 33,000 applications by 1st November deadline, and posted 6500 admits this Friday. They will keep processing these applications and post results till mid January.
@adlgel: I had noticed that as well. A couple of possibilities: OSU could have actively discouraged such applications (there is a new category called art and science undecided …).
Thanks for the reply @osuprof . As I mentioned earlier, is OSU dropping their admissions pct down quite a bit? Just based on this first round they’ve only admitted ~20℅ of applicants. Are those not admitted reviewed later or are 80℅ of people outright denied?
@osuprof thanks for the info, but also wanted to ask if OSU is still seeking to increase the number of OOS applicants and minorities as well this year?
