anybody get notification yet?

I got my phone call from the desert today!

uh oh....how long ago?

It came at 5:30ish EST, but I was only able to receive it around 7:30. I honestly didn't expect it.

Yeah, I got a call this afternoon. 4 more essays! Why am I so excited?

they call different people on different days (if they're doing it like last year)

do they only call people who make it to the second round, or do they call everyone?

I'm nervous...

I think they only call the people they accept - the rest have to wait for a rejection in the mail. At this point it's looking like I'm with the latter group...

Don't worry, it's "early yet."

hello! i also got a phone call from the deep springs. btw i am an international applicant from korea so i can't go to the actual campus.. are there any internationals?

That's quite cool. I hope to get to meet you!

I'm from Canada...

but it isn't looking good, pretty much just waiting for the letter now.

hey does anyone know how many students they have accepted to round 2?

usually about 40. They asked me if I still planned on completely round two, so of these 40, I think that most are going to complete the application.

To all you guys who didn't get phone calls - don't loose hope! I just got a thin manilla-sized envelope in the mail today with the second round application and never recieved a phone call. Anyways, I hope to see some of you @ DS in a month or two, but until then take it easy...

I hope that I am going to end up in the same situation as you, Ben. No phone call, and I still haven't gotten anything in the mail.

Why can't the postal service be more efficient? I'm dying here!!!

I got a letter (and not the good kind) on Tuesday...

Just out of curiosity, what did you all write about for your essays?

For me:

Basically a history of my life. I wrote about the impact music, a gifted and talented program, math, and sports, and service had on my life. I spent most time on this essay, because I felt it probably carried the most weight.

A overview of the mathematics behind the Harter Heighway Dragon Curve.

I made it clear how badly I wanted to go, and focused on the the three pillars. I spent the least time on this essay, figuring that most people who apply to DS want to go for the same reasons.

I don't feel like going into depth with what my essays were about. But I'll say this: the first one didn't answer the question at all. That being said, I thought it was quite a fine essay.

I read in last year's batch of College Confidential talk that people found out in late february if they got in. I know it said april in the packet that I received, but do you think that that's just a formality? That could spare the walls a couple of months of me bouncing off them.

A classmate of mine last year got to Round 2 of Deep Springs but unfortunately (after flyin' to the U.S. from Romania in the winter of February or something to visit the campus) he didn't make the cut. :(

I will say to all of you good luck! I remember how he was moaning about the additional essays for Round 2, yet he was absolutely psyched about it. :D
