Haha, I’d like to know too. Unfortunately, this board is a lot less active than most, and admits don’t post here regularly.

From all the articles and materials I have sifted through, Round I is about finding people with academic competence and genuine intellectual curiosity. Round II is about ensuring possible admits will get along and “click” with the existing student body at DS.

So if we make it to round two thats when the whole being yourself comes in. If I have a least favorite piece of this entire process, it has to be the personal aspect. I don’t like that I can’t control it, and that it just comes down to an arbitrary decision.

It’d be great to start a group (maybe on facebook?) to get a discussion going about the next part of the application process. Who else applied/got in?

I missed 3 calls in a row from Deep Springs because (unbeknownst to me) my mom had disconnected our landline. So I KNOW they are trying to get in contact with me, but I do not know the decision. This is driving me perfectly bananas!

There are some good reasons why there is little activity on this forum. The Telluride Association programs (TASS and TASP) go to real effort to create community among their participants. They have had some bad experiences with people forming relationships and perceptions (both positive and negative) prior to attending their programs. At least one of the TASP sessions in 2009 had a problematic dynamic that some people trace to on-line relationships.

Even though DS is now distinct from Telluride, they have the same origin and vision re community. I recall that last year someone from DS came on to CC and discouraged too much discussion of it. I think that is a legitimate goal, one that they have the right to ask for. By the same token, I think a facebook group would contradict the program’s preferences.

By they way, I am frequent CC poster; I chose to make a temporary username for this post in order to ensure confidentiality.

Best of luck to those of you who interview.

That makes sense. I think one of the primary reasons people are wanting a Facebook group (read: one of the primary reasons I want a Facebook group, haha) or some sort of discussion is because the process of applying to a place as small and unique as Deep Springs often feels like it’s taking place in a vacuum. Considering the nature of the school, though, that’s probably not wholly negative :)

So I’ll leave it alone, I guess, tempting as it may be. Best of luck to all! Hopefully we’ll get to have some genuine conversations in the future!

Holy crap, I just got an email confirming my acceptance to RII. Seeing you guys get your calls days ago kinda made me give up hope, but … maybe my phone screwed up?

I’m so over the moon right now!!! With school over, I’m gonna work really hard on my RDII essays, to make up for my awful RDI ones, which strangely enough were still enough to get me through…

Haha. I like how every year this forum is filled with sophisticated philosophers set out to encourage one another through their trip along the country lane to Grandma’s house for Round 2 of the application, but once the DS Committee sees through the cloud of BS that stinks the forum, they pick an entirely new set of faces and names. When I wrote my application I mainly focused on the obscurity of living in such a place as DS and how awesome it would be, then I thought, “****, there’s no girls there!” So have fun!
