My gpa was either a 3.88 or 3.89 when I was applying to some colleges. On the common app I put 3.9 because I asked some of my counselors and my teachers that since it was close to 3.9, it was ok to round as long as I don’t round to a whole number. I just wanted to know about whether a college will think I am being unethical and whether it will be a factor in applying to colleges.
In general GPAs are always truncated
Colleges will typically require a final high school transcript. How is your GPA stated there? I would match what it has on your transcript.
Well right now it says 3.891 so it’s only a 0.009. However by my final transcript, it should be like a 3.91 if my current grades hold firm.
Whether one should round a GPA or truncate it is a separate question. No matter which method one uses, a 3.891 is not a 3.9 unless, in the extremely unlikely event, an application asks for a GPA to the tenths place. Regardless of what you think your GPA will be, everybody will ask what your GPA is now. So whether a college will think you are 'unethical" is a question nobody can answer. What can be stated is that you did it wrong.
