is anyone else getting this problem: when I use wireless or wired internet through my router the internet dies overnight, like i have to unplug and re plug my router for it work again... it is happening to both mine and my neighbors and we can't figure out what is wrong with it, like we resetted the routers and everything, nothing is working... it dies about 3 times a day...

i suggest going to STC. maybe there’s something wrong in the wall (is your neighbor’s ethernet jack that is dying on the other side of the wall from yours that is dying?)

do you have it set to “access point” mode like [this thread](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/568301-wireless-router.html) is saying?

Lol I had the same problem at home. It turned out to be a combo of problems with my port forward/specific router model.

Is anyone having problems with the LAN in the dorms? Could connect a few hours ago, but now there is “limited connectivity”. Nothing wrong with the cable, might be the wall, just wondering if this was a typical problem.

I had the same problem around that time yesterday. It seems fine now, though.

I have a problem with my d-link router. For some reason, I can’t log into the configuration page (192.168.0.1). I was able to for the first five hours but now firefox says that the “site is taking too long to respond” (IE and safari display the same message also). The internet still works though, but I want to monitor the computers connected on the router. Anyone having the same problem?

if the router is set up as an access point, then you can’t view the config page. if it isn’t, you shouldn’t get internet. if you do get internet, you’re screwing up the internet connection for everyone else in your subnet.

Sometimes, having too many routers on the same channel/frequency can cause some of them to act weird. The default is usually channel 6 or 11, I think… change yours around, that might help.

Here’s a tip that’s not listed on the STC guide for configuring your router as an access point:

In addition to disabling DHCP Server, you must also disable uPnP (Universal Plug and Play) on the router. It’s usually a network setting or an advanced setting.

Is it possible to still have a private wireless network now that I’ve disabled the DHCP Server? Can I still enable WEP encryption?

I don’t really know much about this stuff and before yesterday, I could, but DHCP wasn’t disabled.

umm if i disable DHCP my router don’t work at all, if i have it on i have to restart it every morning but it still works…

something i found out:

you dont plug in the wall ethernet cable into the lone “internet” port on the back of the router. you plug it into one of the four other ports.

that should solve every problem.

If you have a super-smart router, you can also configure the WAN port to act almost like a LAN port.

I’ve got my wireless router setup with the DHCP server disabled but my messengers/games disconnect every once in awhile.. anyone else have this problem? It’s kinda annoying.

P.S. I’m in Rieber Terrace

^ unplug the power and plug it back in

and yeah, make sure you plug the ethernet cable from the wall into one of the LAN ports.

if you want to change settings after DHCP is off, you have two options: 1) some complicated method using a static IP that i have been unable to try out, or 2) reset the router and change everything before disabling DHCP

"^ unplug the power and plug it back in

that’s how i have it set up

Is your router’s MAC address registered at STC?

sooskay: go to STC and ask, then, if you haven’t already. no one’s about to do a detailed troubleshoot here…

spam: you don’t need to register anything this year.

Really now? I know the new students had to download this “SafeConnect” software to their computers.
