Rowan Overview

I'm still looking to get some reviews on Rowan. Its new to us but the price is very low and I have seen a few items hyping its Engineering Program.

Anyone have any experiences to share about Rowan University?

thanks

I graduated with an engineering degree from Rowan this May and I recommend it! Almost everyone I know was guaranteed a job upon graduation or was going to grad school.
If you have any specific questions, let me know.

I’m a rising Junior ChemE and I absolutely love it. I came all the way from Missouri because of the great price (even for an out-of-stater), small classrooms, lack of TAs, and great resources that even the underclassmen can use. Already I’ve been to a national conference for my professional society and I’m spending this summer at a great internship in PA. I could not be anymore happy with my decision. If you have any specific questions, I would love to answer them for you as well.

Are overnight visits and/or the opportunity to sit in on classes available at Rowan? S is interested in the opportunity, but we’ve checked the admissions website and didn’t see it mentioned. Can you make arrangements or is this not available?

We didn’t do the overnight, but my son and I sat in on classes wherever we went, with the professors’ permission. I don’t know the formal policy.

Bottom line: Son graduated and got a good job graduation week in a nice place in his chosen field. He’s out of the house. And he’s glad he chose Rowan.

My daughter is currently a freshman chem e major. Rowan wasn’t her first choice, but with the financial package tthey offered, we couldn’t turn them down. She is in the honors program and I would have to say the school really seems to be working hard to attract the brightest and best. I know of 3 valedictorians that are among her group of friends. She’s been very happy there and so far a great overall expereince.

I’m almost done my time at Rowan and I’m honestly really sad it’s ending! Most of my teachers were great; the teacher-student relationships are what helped me find my passion and they sincerely want to help and teach. At least, this is my experience, and I am very involved in my major’s department. I am applying to grad school soon and my teachers are making appointments with ME to help me through the process! I didn’t want to go to Rowan at first strictly because it is so close to home, but I am SO thankful I did. I wouldn’t have gotten the individualized attention if I went to a bigger school, I feel. The classroom sizes are perfect, the campus is small enough but not too small, and it’s a really good time to be there with all the positive publicity, upgrades, and funding it’s receiving.

Also I have both lived on campus and am currently commuting. Being on campus “forced” me to make friends, and I’m glad I did it because I had a great time and met some great people, but ultimately I prefer commuting.

I am stressing that if you go to Rowan, reach out. To teachers, to students, to clubs…anything. It will make or break your experience!

Let me know if you have any other questions

I’m hoping to hear from current Rowan students, especially ChemE. My son is deciding between UDel and Rowan. UDel is in the top 10 ChemE programs in the country, but Rowan is a lot more affordable. I heard they have a good engineering program, but how is everything else? Is it mostly local NJ kids that go home on weekends? We are OOS and too far to go home often. How is the social life/groups/activities? How are the professors? TIA

@SRKmom I’m a CC student who is trying to transfer into Rowans ECE program. I did however do an internship with a professor, Dr. Dahm, from the chemE department. I cannot speak for all of Rowan engineering because I have limited experience, but my internship did include working with two Jr level ChemE’s.

From what I can tell a good portion of students live on campus and come from Tristate area. The 2 rowan students I worked with both lived on campus. My friend who is a MechE at Rowan commutes. The labs are nice, and you can essentially walk into any room and use whatever machinery or tools you want-there are always engineering technicians on hand. Dr. Dahm, the professor I worked under was a very nice professor, and helpful-cannot speak on the rest of the faculty.

The atmosphere with student-teachers at Rowan is very interpersonal. The lectures are classroom size, no lecture halls - expect for maybe the general knowledge classes like calculus, chem, physics.

I wanted to transfer to Rowan originally because of cost and location but after doing the internship there, I really felt it was the best school for me.
