I got accepted to this Honors Program and I am very interested. Are there any students or parents on this board with any experience with/in the program? How many students receive this invitation? All comments are welcome.

Did anyone receive this invitation? Any information would be appreciated. I’ve viewed the website, but outside of that there is not much else.

Hey, I’m an Eckardt scholar finishing up my sophomore year. Basically, about 25 kids are accepted from every applicant pool to become Eckardts Scholars. We come from all three colleges, and basically it a pretty big honor, especially to be accepted right from the applicant pool. (Others can apply to the program at the end of their freshman year, where it’s much less compeitive.)

Basically, it’s a great books course. You take two or three courses in freshman, and sophomore/junior year. It’s usually a really chilll course, and it fulfills your humanities requirement if your in A&S. Senior year, you do an Eckardts project, which is usually a thesis paper of some sort.

Being in Eckardts is sort of like belonging to a country club. There are a few perks (like free Broadway show trips, and free entrance to all the concerts/preformances held at Zoelner), but the name is the really big thing. It opens a lot of doors within the university, and you pretty much get pushed to the front of the Phi Beta Kappa line. But it comes with a lot of pressure. I really don’t know many Eckardts who have below a 3.9. There all incredibly smart. Depending on your group, there are a few who are socially awkward, but most are like normal lehigh kids. (Work hard, party harder, and all that jazz.)

Hope that helped! If you come to Lehigh I’ll be sure to see you on our next trip to Broadway.
