RPI acceptance rate

according to their website they had 11,200 applicants for the class of 2010 and only accepted 1,370. that is only a 12% acceptance rate. this is not something that I, as a prospective student feel too good about. my extracurriculars are very impressive, and my academics are good (many college classes and APs) however, my SATS (and SATII) are very very very low. I got a 1210 on the SAT, a 600 on the math I SATII and a 730 on the bio SATII. so i'm very nervous to apply. yet, i did well on my APs (all 4's) and got a 28 on the ACT. so apparently I just suck at the SAT. i'm retaking in in oct. and hopefully i can muster up a score that is in the RPI "average".
does anyone know how important the test scores are to RPI?

however, I did recieve the rensselaer medal...
so i have no idea where i stand on my chances on getting in

uh... that 1370 students are the one who CHOOSE to go to RPI...
think about it
they are only the marticulants
and obviously there are more people who got the admitted letters....
except they did not choose to go to RPI
RPI is not like ivy league....and rensselaer medal did not guarantee your admission to RPI also
and you definitely need to increase your SAT

i realize the medal doesn't gaurentee my acceptance hence the post. thanks for the reply but it didn't really answer my only question. how important is the SAT?

here's my stats:

GPA: 93/100 unweighted
Rank: top ten percent
SAT: 1210
ACT: 28
Classes: AP Bio (4), AP Lit, AP Lang (4), Spanish 4, Latin I, AP Calc, AP Stats, AP Physics, SUPA econ, SUPA psychology, Advanced Zooogy/Human Anatomy, took sociology 101 over the summer at Lemoyne

ECs:
-1200 volunteer hours at an ambulance
-took a four month class to became a NYS Certified First Responder
-Vice President of Explorer post
-volunteer at two different hospitals about 50 hours
-NHS
-NYS Business and Marketing honor society
-went to Barnard college/ Columbia Young Women's Leadership program
-Math League
-member of a premed lecture program
-Frontier of Science at SU
-won the RPI medal (a $60,000 scholarship for excellence in math and science)
-Spanish Club
-Ski Club
-JV Track
-National Shakespeare competition
-Student Senate
-high honor roll every marking period of HS.
- summer job at a lemonade stand for 2 years
There are some other ECs that I can't think of and aren't important.

I was admitted with an SAT score of 1320 over the course of two tests.

Also, my extracurricular credentials were much weaker than yours.

To answer your question, I do not think SAT scores are as important to RPI, primarily due to RPI's desire to recruit students from all over the country and the globe. However, there is no way either of us could know, and with the number of applicants going up for RPI each year, I could be very wrong.

I would never want to assure you you're in, but I have a feeling you are set. My best recommendation is to keep up the same or even more of a workload for your final year, and to try and do a couple things that feel most unique to you. For example, for my senior year I put extra effort into my research class and took part in an independent study solidifying my interests.

Does anyone have the stats for the acceptance rate of the class of 2012?

Last year I think it was %39 percent or something.

Also, DON'T WORRY... you got the medal, and you have fairly good stats and ECs. Apply using the early action form from the medal, and you'll get in no problem.

it's 49%...not that hard to get in...so don't worry

especially since you're a medal winner

Last year was 39%, this year has to be the same or lower...... Lot of these website list incorrect data for RPI acceptance. About last year it said 79% which is not accurate at all. I believe it is in the 30's if not lower.

um. the collegeboard website said 49%...who said that it's in the 30's?

Collegeboard is also had it 79% not too long ago. It has an incorrect listing for RPI. I know this because admissions released a 39% figure last year.

oh okay then
I guess you're right :D

Thank you so much for your replies. This board was dead for awhile. I want to apply ED but my mother doesn't want me to because $$$ is important- so I'm applying to three other schools (University of Rochester, Syracuse University, and SUNY ESF). Hopefully, this will give me leverage if RPI doesn't offer as good of a package as the rest. After your replies I feel a little more at ease about my shot of getting in. I'm having a doctor/ professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University write me a letter of rec.- if my SAT were high enough I would be applying for the physician scientist. I'm retaking the SAT in Oct. I'm hoping to hit at least a 1300...

And you guys are right the # is in the 30's.

Is there anything I can do to increase my chances for the physician scientist program or is it a bit too late?

it's too late..

sorry :o

yeah... i figured. thanks anywayss!!! :)

"How can I increase my chances?"
Why don't we help him...:p
