You had an interview for the RPI/AMC @ AMC? How did that go?? Any tips would be appreciated…

hey, i also applied to the RPI/AMC program and have not heard back from them at all since i applied. Should i be worried!?

@craparia, if you weren’t sent a supplemental Albany medical school app indicating that your application was forwarded to the medical school, I would be worried. If you were sent the Albany Med School supp. sometime this month or last month and submitted it, I wouldn’t get worried just yet.

Thanks dblazer. I think i should start worrying now. Any suggestions on how to proceed or should i just take it as a rejection and move on?

Actually, the interviews for the med school go all the way until mid to late March, and seeing as they only give about 2-3 week advanced notice of when your interview will be, I would not give up all hope just yet if you have not received a supplement.

My D got invite for supplement on Jan.10 and it was due Jan.17. They give you 7 days. Nothing since then though.

I just got rejected for an interview from rpi/amc today :(

Thanks guys! Just made me a little less worried and stressed!
@warmmilk sorry to hear that :(

Hi I got an interview for RPI/AMC and I was wondering if anybody knows the details of it. Do they pay for my ticket to fly out? I live on the West Coast so it’s fairly expensive. Also what kinds of questions will they ask? What do I wear? What are my chances of getting in after the interview and when do I find out?

They won’t cover your flight - that’s on your own budget. The questions they ask depends on the interviewer but it should be fairly standard as far as med interviews go. Why you want to go into medicine, be ready to talk about what you’ve done, medical ethics, current health care system issues etc. They also have a group exercise where you’ll do an activity with other interviewees on that day. Dress formally (suit etc.) Chances of getting in after interview stage aren’t very high. I believe about a hundred are invited for the interview and i’m not sure of the exact number but certainly less than 30 are offered spots.

RPI and Union get 20 spots each

@Raycmr - how do you know about the 20 spots each? We got the impression they offered seats to 30-35 students with one third being from RPI, the other third from Union and the final third from Siena.

Their ideal number is 20 students from each school starting freshman year at their respective colleges. So that is 60 in the beginning. Obviously this fluctuates year to year since it is hard to get EXACTLY 20 students.

However, they expect a certain number of students to drop out/apply out/not make gpa/portfolio requirements. While I don’t think this drops the number that goes to AMC to 35, it might.

Oh wow that sounds like the odds might be better then. Is it correct that they only interview 100 students?

My DD LOVED RPI and AMC. She has been accepted into top engineering schools and she would give all of them up in an instant to go to the RPI/AMC combo. We are crossing our fingers.

Should be expecting a rejection letter for interview soon or are they still giving out interviews

hold tight, they’re still giving out interviews (interviews are on 'till the end of march they said).

RPT and Union get 20 spots. Siena gets 14 spots. I know because my D is an upper class-man at one of the 3 schools. I am not allowed to say which school since all three schools do not want UG’s talking about the program to avoid tension with the other science majors. Only if directly asked can they answer a question about the program. No AMC sweat shirts, car decals, banners are permitted and I respect that.

I have to say a tour of AMC really impressed me with all the money they are pouring in. Their O/R’s will look like Star Trek or Apple with all the computer screens and LCD lights and associated cutting edge equipment suspended from the ceiling. When asked why all the expenditures was advised that they are the trauma center for about 3 states and lower Canada. I expect their reputation and prestige will grow accordingly.

In addition to the above number each school keeps about half that number in alternates. That way they can backfill the program and always get the eact number allowed.

Some acceptees are presitige obsessed and go for the ivies even though combines can get up to 30 credits from AP courses and then can do research their senior years with their free time.

Combines also get more aid from from merit while all ivy aid is need based, not spend 3 summers volunteering at hospitals, not take the MCAT and not applying to 2 dozen medicals schools trying to be one of the 20 percent accepted.

For those of you who have had interviews at AMC did they say that they would notify you in approx. a week after the interview or later? Is this one of those no news is good news examples? I know they said that they put most of their interviewees “under consideration”.
So has anyone had any follow up contact?
Thanks - this “hurry up and wait” phase is difficult but exciting too I guess.
