<p>Hey, I'm Matt, I'm a much lower tier student as compared to the rest of the other candidates of RPI I've seen on these forums. My ACT composite is 24, and my SAT's are bad. Not bad like some people have been considering scores in the 600s bad, but bad, as in 580 math, 460 in writing and critical reading. My GPA is around a 3.33 weighted. I rank #9 out of 18.</p>
<p>I don't have the opportunity to do a whole lot of community service and volunteer work. I do what I can, but I'm pretty barren in that field. I went to RPI for the STAR program, met Mike Moore (awesome guy), and James Nondorf. I also did an interview while I was there. I've fallen in love with the school, and I've applied Early Decision 2. I'm not putting all my heart into this, obviously, but if I can get in, that'd be amazing. Do you all think I have a snowball's chance?</p>

<p>You should have tried to get around 1300 on the SAT (m+cr). The good thing about the SAT's is that you can actually study for them. The math portion repeats the same concepts for every test, you just have to put in the hours (which I didn't... but I got a 660)</p>
<p>Their weighted gpa average for incoming freshman is 3.7, mine was around 3.6 or something and I got accepted</p>
<p>I'm not sure if you will get in or not. If you get deferred, definitely retake the SAT's and try to get the 1300. </p>
<p>What type of courses are you taking right now? A really heavy schedule (and with you doing well) shows them that you like challenging yourself, I believe that is what really helped me get in with such a low gpa.</p>
<p>I think its worth a shot, especially if you've really fallen in love with it. I would make sure you get this message across in your application.</p>
<p>like josh says, it depends on everything in general. RPI has as pretty lenient acceptance rate. I had a lower gpa, 3.2 unweighted, but i had a s***storm of AP classes and extracurricular activities. seeing you've already applied, there isnt much you can do now but relax and see what comes up next. i suggest you post up your stats. don't worry, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. ^__^ if you post stats, we can get a better idea of where you're at. like total number of ap/ honors, community service done, sports etc. oh and if you DO get deferred, dont give up. it means, basically a waitlist, so if you do well this year, you still have a shot!</p>

<p>You have as good a chance of getting in as many people do. I would use the essay portion of the Common App to tell your story. Some people just don't test all that well. If you have some good recommendations it should help a lot as well. Good luck!</p>
<p>Minority means that there are fewer people in a population. Represented means whether or not they are students at the school. For example students of Asian descent, I would assume, are still in the minority of the population at large. Perhaps they are "represented" in a larger number as students at the school.</p>
<p>As for women --- they are certainly not a minority in the population at large but they are most certainly underrepresented at the school.</p>

<p>You will probably get in. I had a 630 Math 510 English (White) GPA of 3.6 (Now its 3.75) and I was accepted under Early Decision II. SAT's are not everything. In matter of fact on the math section of the SAT, I got 6/9 hard questions right even though I only got in the 82 percentile (630). I am a pianist, compettitive swimmer and track and field runner, and a member of the national honor society. I came from a inner city school ...75 percent African American. Guarenteed becuase you African American you will get in...no worries. I would still bring your math up. You should be able to get a 660 atleast if you study. I took a course and got a 720 Math, 580 English....but I never performed on the actual exam...oh well. Good luck...you should have gotten some form of notice by now.</p>

<p>Think of it this way: Can it really hurt you to send that information in?? No. All that is actually important. Most schools these days are looking for “well rounded” students. I think I’d send it asap :)</p>
