Hey all! Figured that I would see if other collegeconfidential posters received the medal scholarship from rensellier polytech. I know RPI is not on the same echelon of schools like cornell and MIT, but it still has a top-rated engineering program in national college rankings. Hey, I'll take $60,000 distributed evenly over 4 years!

I am receiving it for next year, although I will probably not be attending. It's quite a deal, however.

My son #1 who is presently a junior at Rensselaer received this medal when it was 10K per yr and now son # 2 just won it this past week. He may look at RPI. It is a very difficult school with many students needing to take longer then the 4 yrs to finish their major.

I won it last year when I was a junior, and it caused me to look very seriously at Rensselaer, but after visiting the school I decided it just wasn't for me. But it is still an amazing school for those who like it, and it offers incredible financial/merit aid beyond just the 60,000 that comes with the medal. Congrats on receiving it! =)

S won it, but RPI wasn't on his list. There is a poster on the Parents Forum whose son took advantage of the scholarship.

I won the RPI Mathematics and Science Medal. It is given to the best science and math student in the junior class. I was never planning on going to college in New York but I applied anyway (b/c you get a free application when you win the Medal). I got in and I am guessing that most--if not all--medal winners get in. Good luck!!!

Yeah, the acceptance rate is above 90% for the medalists, I believe.

My school people make sure that the person being awarded the medal is actually interested in RPI.
