My daughter just received the RPI Medal as the outstanding math/science student in the junior class. Will it help her get accepted? She has great grades, top 5% of her class excellent ECSs (captain of two varsity sports- 9 varisity letters, league all star for 2 sports, founder of Latin club, lots of volunteer coaching, NHS). Downside - not so hot SATs. She would be looking at architecture as a major.

Congrats on your D getting the Medal!

My comments on your question are just based on what I have read on this board, but it seems that getting the Medal does not help you get accepted. Medal winners used to get a free application and an admissions option that was like nonbinding Early Action, but they did away with that a few years ago.

There have been instances mentioned on this board where someone who got the Medal did not get in.

Good luck.

For Architecture you may want to check if the Medal award pays for the fifth year

Thanks for the responses. I thought that might be the case.

We were told that the scholarship was good for 4 years but we definitely will ask about the 5th.

it’s good for 5 years only if you’re in architecture

Thanks - just found that on the school’s web site. We’re excited -just hope she gets accepted.
