@karlee2510 The job placement rates are often a function of major. Some majors like computer science are very heavily recruited. My son at RPI was interviewed for internships/coops at all the major silicon valley firms and major financial companies in NYC, much of this on campus recruiting. He has a great internship lined up for this coming summer, at a very high rate of pay in his field. Business grads from Bing are in higher demand than RPI business school grads (not by alot but I think RPI is not worth the extra $ for business school unless you want tech specific entrepreneurship career and not other more traditional career options).
But there are some majors like basic science where a job out of undergrad is tougher to come by. Some fields require a masters or PhD to get employment. Engineering and CS degrees where there are jobs open, RPI grads do get the interviews. But CS and Engineering are very tough at RPI, many drop out and end up in other majors with lesser immediate employment prospects. Also for those who want to go to grad school, picking the wrong major can hurt your grades, and even if you change majors, can be tough to make that up. I have no doubt if you are a social science or liberal arts major at Bing you may have a high GPA and an easier time getting into grad school. But the Biology major at RPI may have a lower GPA most likely due to the competition. The A student from RPI with the right majors, are in very great demand, but if you can’t meet the demands of the more competitive majors there, being in the wrong major or with low grades in the right major, the name of the school wont help as much. Be prepared to work very hard.
As an example, my son took Chem at RPI and got a C. He took Bio over the summary at a community college, and with little or no effort got a B+. There can be a big difference in the standards and competition from one school to another. Better to be an A science student at Bing than a C science student at RPI, IMO. But if you can do well at RPI, it will give you many options. Google “famous RPI alumni”, it is stunning what they have done.
Invented email, digital camera, many astronauts (and former head of NASA Apollo program), and much more.
Famous Bing graduates I have heard of are Hollywood stars. You can be very successful from either school, my closest family attended Bing. Just a matter of whether you want to be with hardcore geeks or not.
