Hi guys, i was admitted to both UCLA and RPI as a molecular biology major. I really cant decide between UCLA and RPI because while UCLA has a higher ranking(something my parents value, for some strange reason) RPI has a very good undergrad business program(which i am considering for a double major with bio). Another concern is that i have to pay 15k for RPI, along with a 7k loan every year; UCLA, however, offered me a full ride. With this economy, i really cant just take a bet on a (expensive!) school and just go with it. Can you guys help me out here? Gimme some reason why i should choose one school over the other.

UCLA might be ranked higher but RPI has better students (just based on average SAT scores)

either is good though…

One more question, should i go to RPI if i want to work in the east coast (wall street?) after i graduate?

UCLA is much better known than RPI (“that’s the tech school in Rochester, right?”) even on the east coast.

yeah but employers and grad schools know that RPI is no joke…

College of Letters and Sciences make it easy to get into UCLA, good thing u didn’t apply for engineering there, it’s death. Anyways, I’m not going to a UC; because I’m from SoCal most of my friends are, especially since UCLA was the most prestigious school they were accepted.

However due to the budget cuts alot of programs are being cut from the UCs and as you said, in this economy you can’t afford to pass up a full ride but still… you’re guaranteed ur classes at RPI whereas at UCLA, not so sure.

Plus UCLA has a good undergrad but an AMAZING grad program, that and college sports is where the money’s going; right now the undergrads that are suffering.

I suggest get the quality education from RPI, then if ur parents are really into UCLA do grad school/med school there.
