RPI vs Pitt

I'm from NJ and Ive been accepted to both RPI and University of Pittsburgh and would have to pay around the same for each school with financial aid. I'm planning on majoring in applied mathematics and probably economics but am having trouble choosing a school so I'd just like to hear your opinions. What school do you think would prepare you for a career better? Where do you think you would get a better education and better internships/coops? Would it be better to attend one school if you want to go to a top ranked grad school? Thank you for your help!

I would give RPI a slight edge academically but only slightly. However Pittsburgh is a much nicer place to be a college student than Troy. RPI would be more nerdy and more male. If it were engineering I would give it a bigger edge at the same cost, however my opinion is that either school is good for math and econ. Either place can lead to a top ranked grad school if you do very well. I really can’t answer the quality of internships/coops, but both places will have an office to help you with that.

My daughter is an applied math major at Pitt, with physics as her concentration. She is quite happy there. I think that Google (one of the largest employers of mathmaticians) just opened offices in Pittsburgh.
