Hey I'm stuck between deciding whether I'd prefer to go to RIT or RPI (of course I still have to be accepted into them..). I plan on majoring in computer science, and maybe taking some additional classes on computer security since I'd like to work with the FBI in cybercrime. Both also have similar extracurricular activities that I would like to participate in.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

What are your grades like? Now that RPI has the reputation of “one of the new ivys” it has gotten a lot harder to get in. RIT is a good school, but academically the averages are not as high as RPI. If you have the grades to get into RPI (and can afford it, those prices are crazy) then I would say go there. Over all, they’re both good schools, but RPI is more competitive and in my opinion probably a better school.

they’re almost in two different leagues…RIT is a 2nd tier, but respectable tech school…RPI is more affiliated with ivy league quality schools (just a pure tech version) and has more MIT caliber students…plus i’d say RPI is a lot more intense of a school…harder to get a good GPA there…

If you think you are going to grad school & need a high GPA, then choose RIT.
RPI is somewhat of a pressure cooker. Both really great schools.

Best of luck in your college search!

Thank you everyone for the responses! So my final decision was RIT, which I’ve been accepted to (as well as the Honors Program)… where I’ll be majoring in Information Security and Forensics… which I felt was more specific to what I want to do than a CS major.
