RRO and Registration

How does this process work?

I am a transfer with 63 credit hours for Spring 14, and the classes I need seem to be full already .

Do they open up more classes during orientation?

There isn’t really a spring orientation as far as I know - at least, nothing to scale of the giant fall orientation (which really only benefits freshmen anyway). The profs won’t suddenly add more spots, but at least one person will drop each class by the time next semester starts. Definitely a few people will drop after the first day of class.

This is probably the most frustrating thing about Tech, in my opinion. I’m a current junior and when I transferred here last year, I realized that even though it’s a big school, every class beyond the absolute basics is quite small. It’s nice to BE in the classes, just nerve-wracking waiting for spots to open. I swear they will, though, even if you have to wait until the second day of class.

All that aside, I do recommend finding a backup class or two just in case something doesn’t work out. I’ve never seen it happen, but better to be safe than sorry, you know? Good luck and hope you’ll love being a Red Raider!

I agree, this is very frustrating.

I only have 17 hours worth of classes to.chose from for my first semester at Tech. I need these classes in order to enroll in the other ones I need so I have no backup classes. Those 17 hours worth of classes are all full. I do, however, have a back up university in mind that is not so large. I just don’t understand why they make transfers wait a few days before class starts to register…

I’m attending Tech in the spring as a transfer also. There’s an orientation which is required and the only way to register for classes is to attend, but the timing of it is all wrong IMO. It really doesn’t allow time to register for a class before they’re taken up.

I think they should have gone ahead and let new students register for classes once the student accepted their admission decision so they’ll have a class to attend.

It’s not hard to perform a degree audit to know which classes to take which is what advisors will do at orientation anyway. Then attend orientation come January
