Any idea what those of us who are rejected should do? Would it be possible to ask them why?

^
I applied to a "plan B" program back in February, similar in structure to RSI, but longer (7 weeks) and certainly FAR less prestigious (also, 50% acceptance as opposed to RSI's 5-6%). Has anyone heard of the summer program at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY?

if that doesn't work out, which it might not, since the program seems to favor the economically disadvantaged, I'll go to debate camp and maybe look for some sort of internship, though I'd think most internship deadlines have passed. In that case, I'd volunteer at the hospital lab or something; if nothing else, it'll get me community service hours.

BUT - if by some miracle, I get off the waitlist and onto the participants' list, I'm going to RSI (obviously).

oh...I definitely read the question wrong.
What we should do in terms of RSI?
I'd just leave it be. It's not the end of the world. They probably don't know specifically why each person didn't make it and I dont want to bother them too much.
Though, I suppose you could send an email if you wanted...

Ah, no, you answered correctly. I was asking both in general and in terms of RSI. Thanks

ahh, lady u applied to Roswell Park too? Same here. Good luck to u.

intelliot: no problem...my plans may not be of much help, but meh, whatever

wrathofgod: i did. Good luck to you too. I wasn't sure about it because it's website only had a single page and it looked kind of sketchy sicne I hadn't heard anything about it. But I applied anyway. The more I think about it, the more it sounds like fun. Just 30 or so students - so a very closeknit environment - 7 weeks away from the rents, and of course research I've been dying to have the facilities and assistance to do.
Do you know if they sent anything out yet? I sent an email today to the lady whose email was at the bottom of the page, but I felt like I was badgering.

Sit back, relax, and revel in the knowledge that, even though we were rejected, we are still in some fantastically awesome company.

i haven't gotten anything from them. i'm still waiting from 2 other summer internships, and after this rejection it doesn't look like my chances are that great for either.

RSI is probably THE hardest program to get into...what makes you think you stand no chance at the other two?

zoogies: you take rejection well, don't you? that's nice to see...no depression....

Only on the forums ;) I would've really, really, really loved to get in, but I guess I knew I couldn't.

yea i guess i'm taking this rejection pretty badly. i admire those of u who take it so well though. hopefully i can bounce back in the next week or two.

no, that's expected.
I was near tears a few hours ago. It's worse when you know you were SO close, but no cigar.
I'm optimistic now though, maybe because I still have a speck of hope, however small that may be. But if not RSI, another will do, and if not that, I'll find something...At least that's my thinking for now. It may change in a week.

Yeah. Everyone takes it badly, even if their emotions don't, uh, carry over to discussion forums. Besides, you have a right to. DuPont essay. That is something to be very proud of. :)

i agree
about the DuPont essay....

I actually applied to Roswell as a Plan B too, one of my friends heard from them, but she was admitted for math so maybe they didn't get to science yet? I hope you guys get in to Roswell.
btw Rockefeller has an amazing program as well, www.rockefeller.edu/outreach

I applied to SHARP as a plan B and I got rejected. This therefore shows that I am a low rickoid, meaning chosen #79 or 80, lol.

zogoto, how do you know you got rejected for SHARP?
