Rsi 2012

EDIT: Didn’t see the guy above me post on the uselessness of chancing, but it’d be nice to hear and evaluation from people who know more about this than me

Can someone chance me? Trying to go for a Physical Chemistryesque thing, if someone could help be narrow down what to report

SAT: 2360 (800R/800M/760W)
SATII Math 2: 800
SATII Chem: 800
SATII Phys: 800 (But not sure if they’ll accept because the school said it was too recent to put on their official report, would it be worth sending it to them afterwards?)

Research/Experience:
None, lol, does an Exploravision on biofuels count?

I’m no expert at this, but as long as you wrote a great set of essays and got good recomendations, you will probably get in. Don’t slack off on the essays though. From what I have heard, they are far more importaint than any other part of the applicaitons.

@joexxo: Yeah, just copy the score report or print it out from the website. I don’t believe you absolutely have to send your ACT score, but I don’t think it’d hurt you. The application says “ACT minimum scores should be 33 for math” so a 33 in science is probably the same.

@Zxygy0: For the physics, I suppose you could just send the unofficial report and they can ignore it or use it depending on whether or not they care that it’s not on your transcript. I can’t imagine that’d hurt. It’s a good score, but SAT IIs shouldn’t make or break you. For the coursework, it should all show up on the transcript anyways. The only other place you specifically mention coursework is in that coursework chart. Mention things as applicable. For the “other” on said chart it would probably make the most sense to mention further classes in the fields you’re applying for. Otherwise mention as applicable (probably some of it might come up in question 7, for example). Much as I’ve said for everyone else, I can see your passion for science and your objective stats are good. It’s impossible to give real chances. Write good essays, get good recommendations. Best of luck.

My son is applying this year. He filed a patent on his 9th grade science fair project (won second place at ISEF). Is that worth metioning? Under what part? Should he contact CEE to ask about this? I told him he should mention the patent number in his essay at least. If they want, then can find it from “google patent”.

@ScienceCoach: That would seem to fit quite well in question #5. Definitely have him mention it there.

Can someone chance me?

PSAT: 219 :\ :\ :\ goofed up on math, but i got an 80 last year D: and somehow 2 wrong in writing was a 70 i was sad. was getting 230s on my practices and somehow died when it mattered.

@sadface, pretty good chances I say…

God people need to stop being so amazing…makes me feel like I got no chance :P

Sent from my SGH-T959V using CC App

dang, Zxygy0 and sadface, those stats are absolutely amazing. Which states/areas of the US are you applying from? I damn hope well your not from my state lol. good luck, and if there’s any method to the madness, i know you have a smashing chance at this.

@dark, EXACTLY. Im from maryland btw…how about everyone else?

Unfortunately No real awards. I never knew how to enter any of these competitions until it was too late.

@darksigma. I’m from Michigan. D: I wouldn’t say my chances are that high, my psat is really really bad. :(

Any Ohioans in here? (I hope not, because everyone in this thread has very formidable stats haha)

@undercover, I also wrote approximately 2.5 pages. After all, I think they definitely value your ability to be concise while still having all of the content.

question guys
got PSATs back. I got a 2130 80M/67R/66W but i really got a 2270 80M/67R/80W, losing 14 points due to 100% clear/unambigious bubbling errors (like, I accidentally bubbled 3 Cs in a row instead of 2 when i went back to do the bubbling, had the 4 including that one following it off by one question, and then realized my mistake after 4 incorrect bubbles but forgot to go back and fix it). I showed it to my guidance counselor, and she agrees, and says she wants me to let her write a note on my app that explains this (I otherwise would not send the scores). What should I do?

Also, taking into account whatever you think about the first question, should i send 2210 (77M/79W/65R) SATs? I’m sending my 34 (35M/S, 34W, 30R) ACTs and my 800MathII and 790Chem SATIIs, so I dont know whether or not I exactly need to send SATs at all.

ps anyone interested in doing a little bit of peer review for the essays?

@burningflame In my opinion, I don’t think it is worth mentioning that you made a mistake bubbling in the answers. If I got an application that said that, I would just be confused and deem the person unable of simply marking in the right answers. (and I’m sure you can make up for that score anyways)

Those SAT II stats are really good. I would send them if I had those! (But the ACTs, I’d leave it. It’s really not necessary.) As far as the SATs, maybe you should just send in the SATs and not the PSATs? because you only need one. It says to submit PSATs or SATs or ACTs. And your SATs are better than your PSATs, so consider sending just the SATs.

Good luck! (I’m starting to feel a bit blehhh on this. I don’t think I have a chance…)

I got in with 219 on the PSAT, it’s nowhere near the most important of the application. If you’re a little under the cutoff I wouldn’t worry about it.
