SAT is good enough. However, you can send PSAT score report to update when you get it.

Hey guys, I had a quuestion about PSAT scores. I talked to my guidance counselour whether or not if our school can send the scores and she was incredibly confused . o.o…then she told me to talk to the collegeboard… (would the collegeboard be willing to send the offical PsAT scores for me? )

@pineapplejuice, tell your school to print your test scores within the sealed envelope that contains your transcript

@Litotes

Where do they print it from? And where do they print the PSAT scores from?

Yeah i am a bit confused about that…because for my school, they don’t put test scores on transcripts. I got my transcript sent…but my test scores have not yet been…and my guidance conselour told me that they don’t do such.

So my school’s on vacation right now, and it seems like I won’t be able to get a transcript until school reopens… (January 2nd)… In the instructions, it says that the school should send the official transcripts, but is it okay if I just get it from the school right after I return and I mail it via priority mail so that it goes in by the deadline?

or is it okay if the official transcripts arrive a little past the deadline since technically it’s the school’s part?

Do any of you know the number for which I can get directly in touch with CEE?

I don’t believe you can have the collegeboard send scores directly to CEE. If your school doesn’t have a way to attach them to transcripts, they should at least have some sort of record of your scores. Just tell them to make a copy and send that. And (for an unofficial copy) you can print your scores from the collegeboard website.

@SniperCat30: I’m pretty sure email is preferred (maite [at] cee [dot] org). They’re good about responding quickly (sometimes even on weekends, though I’m sure not this weekend since it’s a holiday) so if that’s what you’re worried about then don’t be. I couldn’t seem to find a phone number.

If you guys can’t figure out how to send transcripts / test scores to the Center for Excellence in Education, you honestly don’t deserve to apply to the 2012 Research Science Institute, much less go.

Sometimes the schools make it more difficult than it needs to be, it’s (probably) not their fault.

but does the school’s official transcript also have to go in by January 6th? The office is currently closed, and well, they don’t always get things done ASAP…

You… probably should have thought of that earlier then. Unless the office has been closed since the end of November, you had plenty of time. Pretty sure the deadline is absolute, though I suppose you could email CEE and ask if it would be okay. I can’t answer in any official capacity.

The essays are to be written in ten point font, but it doesn’t specify the margin space. Would it be a bad thing if I narrowed the margins by a few tenths of an inch?

How many words are your essays in total? Mine is like 2400 or something

2660 and I still would like to write a few sentances more.

Can someone chance me please?

Any advice will help!!!’ thank you for your time! Good luck to everyone!

Why do you have four rec letters? I’m pretty sure RSI only wants two.

Haven’t decided which ones yet.

@xlazy357: Pretty decent. I’m worried about your SAT score, absence of any advanced math and science classes, and complete lack of any significant math and science awards even though you do have some research. I would say about 35 - 40%.

@RSIuser: If it doesn’t specify margins and the margins aren’t obviously way too small, it’s not like they can really do anything about it. Just make sure it’s actually worth it. Try to be concise. Most college essays once you get to that point are going to have limits of around 500 words (or less, MIT’s essays are 250 or 100 words each) so it’s something you’re going to have to learn anyways. (Of course, I’m one to talk considering how much I tend to ramble)

@xlazy357: To offer a second opinion, I think your SAT score is fine (the PSAT equivalent is above what they want as a lower bound), and I can attest to the fact that lacking significant awards is not going to destroy your chances. However, in general the stuff you listed does not seem to show a real passion for the sciences. The research is good, but you don’t really have other math/sci ECs and such. And regarding rec letters, choose whichever two know you best and would have good, unique things to say about you. Specifically, if you were thinking about the professor and department chair only because they’re “higher ranked” than the other two, that’s not a good way to be thinking about it (obviously I don’t actually know if that’s what you were thinking or not, but…)
