@MaterMia: yep! :)

@iamaturd your stats look good to me, way better than mine lookā¦ o.0

haha (: I think I saw this on another yearās forum, but just making sureā¦ I had a research mentor/professor from this past summer at Iowa SSTP, but he only came in every other day to lab and I only had around 3 conversations with him the entire 6 weeks. I worked mostly with a graduate student, but she has since graduated as well and moved awayā¦ I doubt the professor even knows my name, much less would know enough about me to write a letter for me. So, I asked my school science teachersā¦ okay, right?

Question spam T.T:

For classes that we took on the online portion of the app, if itās an AP, does it count as āHonorsā or āCollegeā?

It requests 2 rec letters and if you did research, a letter from the mentor. So if I did research twice separately, should I have my recs be all from mentors or should I still ask a teach?

How important is knowledge of computer language? >__<

Haha, sorry for the bombardment of questions. Theyāre coming like dodgeballs lol. Anyway, any advice would be totes appreciated ~

I have a similar problem, since Iāve taken a few college classes and am doing a supercomputing internship right now. I donāt know my professors and internship supervisor as well as I know my high school science teachers, so I have no idea who to get my recommendations from.

Thad might sound wierd but is anyone else scared to apply. I almost donāt want to cause I donāt want to get rejected. It should scare me but still. any one else terrified to send their app???

Mentonin: " If you donāt apply the chances of your admission are 0%. Seriously, donāt close doors for yourself. Rejection letters are much better than missed opportunities."

If youāre scared, still apply; you wonāt regret it.

I am terrified Rbstark. Seriously. Every time I stare at my essays, which are half done and need a LOT of finishing, I laugh hysterically. Also, for those of you waiting for PSAT scoresā¦ my GC told me our schoolās were going to arrive in less than a week. SCARED!!!

Hey
Iām new to this forum and am going to apply to RSI. In what field studies are you all interested? Iām considering materials science, and biophysics.

@WeIsCool send your SAT, then! (I donāt think PSAT is a must.) Did that get resolved in your favor, by the way?

@laurab: Bio all the way! Genetics, germs, and babies. <3

@shinexalive ahhh no. Turns out the curve was just really badā¦ I only got 2 or 3 wrong total for each subject and still got a pretty weak score. Waiting for my answer booklet and answers so I can see what I did wrong, retaking January

and @lauab1220, I was looking into biology and chemistry: Would biomaterials fall under chemistry or material sciences or biology? hmmmmm

Iām applying for Astrophysics and Comp Sci.
We donāt have to send PSAT scores, right? I thought that I would just send my SAT score.

@rdcolina Thatās what I thought/think. Iām pretty sureā¦ o.0 (or at least I hope so really hard)

You donāt have to send in your PSAT scores.

You only send your PSAT scores if you donāt have your actual SAT or ACT scores yet (or if you did better on the PSAT than the other two tests).

Can we get a recommendation from an internship supervisor if the internship wasnāt necessarily research? Also, is the research mentor recommendation in addition to the two teacher recommendations?

@ WeIsCool-Biomaterials falls under biology? Thatās definitely a tough one.
@shinexalive - Yesss! :D

Iām considering applying to governorās school (free)ā¦and a few backup programs (cost :/) also for the summer. If I get RSI though, I am 100% accepting and going to it over the other programs.
I hear the acceptance rate for RSI is ridiculously low.

@laurab: a little lower than āridiculously lowā is about correct T.T

Hello,
Iāll be applying to RSI next year. Is there any way I can access the application this year?

Thanks!

@moose97: Iām not sure. I guess you could make an account and never submit itā¦ but thereās not much to it. Itās just your basic application.

@laurab1220: Ummmm, 2 to 3% acceptance rateā¦ soā¦ yeah. And almost every applicant will be qualified, if not overly qualified.

@calcc: I called the RSI people today because I did not want to get a letter from my research mentor, and they said that the two teacher recs were what most people submitted and they called the research mentor letter āsupplementalā. But they also hate extra things apparently. So, might want to call them too. Hereās their number: (703) 448-9062 and they operate 8:30 to 5:30 Eastern time on weekdays

Soā¦I just got my PSAT results back.

80 CR
67 MA
70 WR

Total score of 217. Truth be told, Iām quite disappointed in these scores (I got a 232 on the official CB practice test).

During test day, I locked up on math and proceeded to miss quite a few questions. However; the SAT practice tests I have been taking have regularly been in the 750+ range for math.

Will I be able to get in even though itās not a 220?

(at least Iām from CO so the NMS selection index is nice and low)
