RSI Chances???

4.0 GPA
8/750
taking AP Calc right now
1550 (800 V, 750 M) SAT
Siemens Westinghouse Regional Finalist
presumably high PSAT scores (222 last year)
3 on AIME
no computer programming experience whatsoever

chances: good.

The Siemens Westinghouse stuff will definately work to your advantage

oh god I hope this isnt a sign of an oncoming mass RSI thread like last year... not that thats entirely bad I probably wouldn't have worked so hard on the app if there wasnt..... but anyway...

yeah Siemens, major boost, computer programming experience of very little importance unless you plan on telling them you want to do CS, or math maybe. So assuming you apply to RSI and indicate your research interests as whatever your westinghouse project was, very good chances (and its not CS). Just come across well in the app and don't be dry! Oh and being away from the east coast helps too :-P

There already is a gigantic RSI thread for this year. Last year's thread was ridiculous, though.

should I put the 3 on AIME on there?

would I correct in understanding that you did a team project?

obviously, since s/he is only a junior, and only seniors are allowed to enter individual projects for SW...

yes you should, and WOW you're doing the application in november?! Just to let you know, half of all the people that get accepted to RSI don't even know it exists untill at most a month before the deadline :-p Not that it matters, just a random interesting note :-)

Frankenchrisheheheh.

waits for mushroomcloudchris

hahaha frankenchris is right. i found out about rsi one week before apps were due lol

can someone tell me where to sign up for RSI?

http://www.cee.org/rsi/index.shtml

Hey in my original post for RSI chances (above), I forgot to add that I have a 730 SAT II Math IIC. How much will this hurt my chances? Is there any way to not put on SAT II scores but to send SAT I scores?

bump it up

bump again

shut up, you should be intelligent enough to read ALL the archived posts on this topic and thus get your answer.

Wow you sure are a delightful person to talk to

well, I would be were I not exhausted and a tad overworked.
What I meant to say is that you are clearly someone who seems intelligent, and thus your efforts to get a sense of whether you are a strong applicant seem redundant. (and just because a bunch of the people who attended the program post stuff doesn't mean they have any insight. In fact, some have explicitly stated that they have no idea how they were accepted.)

wow i'm quite offended. my good-natured intentions of trying to help prospective rickoids are spoiled. I've come to the resolution that I won't post anything about evaluating people's chances for RSI anymore. But I must say schemer, if you apply your logic to the "What's my Chances?" then everyone in there is wasting his or her time, which is quite true. No one knows about the inner works of the adcom, at least those who've been through it can give you some idea. but i guess i won't waste my time anymore. good luck future rickoids...you're on your own!!
