RTT Thoughts?

I had an awesome time at RTT these past couple days! Everyone was so friendly at Swarthmore and the campus was beautiful! I learned so much about the school, and the activites and classes were really neat. I'm still unsure if I'm going to matriculate but in any case it was a fun 2 days.
So what was everyone's favorite part? Mine was probably the Student Life presentation with the 5 student panelists, or the A Capella groups...

The student panelists were very informative...plus they all had a great sense of humor and seemed to be very interested in what they were studying...very articulate. Plus, I got a pennant from Jim Bock for having one of the largest families among admitted students...lol

Yeah the line about Bryn Mawr girls was priceless.

Actually almost every student I met seemed articulate, which was great. Also Jim Bock is such a cool guy, I wish more adcoms were like him.

He got a job!

But anyways, I quite enjoyed RTT--especially Wink.

Some random photos from RTT:

Hey Miles (is that right?)....sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you at RTT. I'm lovin swarthmore09...maybe it'll make these next four months go a bit more quickly!

Terrific photos!

I really like the one looking down Parrish Beach. It gives a sense of the immense scale of that lawn.

In the recent Swat Land-Use planning project, the architects noted that it is exactly the same size as Thomas Jeffererson's original lawn at UVa. They mentioned that UVa made a mistake in adding a building to close off the open end and view from the lawn and were adamant that Swarthmore preserve that entire open space.

There's also an open space that crosses the lawn, extending all the way from Worth past the library across the lawn, past Sharples, to the tennis courts and Crum Woods. They want to preserve that open "tranverse" view as well.

Yeah those photos were awesome, especially the B&W ones.

tdkgal were you the one with 13 siblings?

(He did get a job! I was a little late getting to that -went to a lecture on conservatism with my host - but it was really entertaining once there...)
"You need to hook up with Alex (was that his name?) after the meeting."
"That'll be sort of difficult..."

I love Swarthmore :)

But yes. My favorite things were probably the Linguistics lecture (according to a book I got in Philadelphia, Al Bloom (/that/ Al Bloom) presents one of the most interesting ideas in a certain area of linguistics...I had no idea he was a linguist!) with the professor who, according to my host, was fluent in the Siberian language of Os after only several conversations. Also, the music department open house, where we had to pull in our chairs a bit closer because a really amazing string quartet was practicing (literally) above our heads, was very informative and the faculty all seem wonderful (and they actually want violins! I wasn't sure if we were overpopulated or not...) In the same vein, talking to the folkdance people about fiddling (their fiddler is a senior) at contra dances was lovely. And watching Wink (I wish I would have played, looking back.)
I'll stop now, heh.
And thanks for taking photos, Miles (I had a camera but never got around to taking any...this is wonderful)

College_hopeful,

Please share the priceless line
about the Bryn Mawr girls.

Wow, Arador, these photos are beautiful. Especially the black-and-white ones. You are a great photographer.

proud2bherdad:

On the panel of students who spoke to the "specs," there was a freshman who was small and funny. Anyway, he was talking about getting off campus, and he said, "You can go to Haverford, or Bryn Mawr, to check out the Bryn Mawr girls."

Then the senior male said: "Our girls get a little jealous when they see the Bryn Mawr bus."

One of the girls: "There is nothing wrong with Swarthmore girls."

The senior boy: "Yeah and there is NOTHING wrong with Bryn Mawr girls."

"You need to hook up with Alex (was that his name?) after the meeting."
"That'll be sort of difficult..."
(paraphrase) "Let me rephrase--you two need to touch base." LOL

The person with 13 siblings was a guy; I met him on the shuttle bus to Philadelphia and we spent one beeeellllion hours hanging out while waiting for our late flight.
