RU Express debit card

I wonder..
When I applied for on-campus housing, I applied for an RU Express debit card?
It looked good because of on and off campus privileges and stuff.
I also heard it's kind of like a student ID card?
But I mean, is it really useful? comfortable? no disadvantages?

i found it useful because i lived right across from the douglass cafe last semester and would use money on my debit card if i went over the meal swipe limit (which happened pretty often). they also take ru express at a bunch of other places (blanking right now, but some places in downtown nb take ru express and whatnot). and if you don’t find it useful, just don’t put more money on it. ohhh also laundry! if you live in a building with laundry machines that take ru express, it’s so convenient! i i have to carry around bags of quarters year-round while having ru express would be much more convenient.

also your debit card is your meal swiper card/student id/how you get into your dorm/gym card (you have to show it to the people behind the counter at the rec centers or leave it with the people if you’re Renting gym equipment). it’s pretty important.

Hi Naoise - thank you for all the useful info that you post. You have been a big help when I look for info on various things. ONe question now about actual cash. My son has signed up for the RUID card, but that doesn’t work if you need actual cash does it? We;re thinking that he will need an ATM card to access actual cash for places that don’t take the RUID card and were wondering if there are ATM machines around campus, let’s say for MAC & plus cards (Sovereign bank for example) so he could get cash? Thanks a lot for any info you could provide about this.

there are atm machines in all the student centers, plus an actual wachovia and bank of america on george street on college ave. the atm machines are pnc-owned, and do not charge you if you’re not affiliated with that bank, which is very nice. and they let you take out money from savings/checking accounts and you can take out $15 dollars and it’ll give you all fives. i don’t really know if any of these are unique to pnc atms but i found it pretty convenient. hope this was helpful!

thanks. That’s pretty good that they don’t charge a fee. It gets pretty expensive now to withdraw funds from ATM’s different from you own bank’s.

if I didn’t sign up for an ru express card before, is it possible to get one once the schoolyear begins?

sure you can. just fill up your card here: RU Express Online;
(your student id works as ru express btw. it is also your meal swiper/print card/gym card/way to get into your dorm card)

right, right. thanks for the information!
ah, is it also true that with the RU Express, you can get various discounts?
let’s say, bookstores? i’d need to get school books soon :S
