How are the low cost triples in Rubin-too small?, bunk beds? liveable. Is it too cramped for 3 students. My son seems to have been put there and is concerned- he's got guitar and amp. as well as the usual stuff.
His first choice was Rubin but he didn't request the LCT.

how do you know what dorm he got? I'd like to know for my son.

He went to NYU home-signed in and went to current activity- it had the billing and in the past there was an estimated housing charge and 14 meal plan- today it had Rubin triple and the price for one semester at Rubin for 2935 or something like that which is equivalent to the cost of LCT in Rubin on the NYU website.
Would still like some info on the room- I've seen info on the site for hayden but not Rubin from students who have actually LIVED in the rooms rather than 2nd hand info.

i haven't lived there but when i went on the tour, the room seemed like a pretty decent size. i also got placed into rubin on a LCT even though i didn't apply for it. i've heard that it's a good deal for your money because it's not cramped and sometimes u can even fit a bed into the closet (not sure if that's the case in every room)

i lived in one last year, and it was really great. my room was huge and nice and i hardly paid anything for it. two of the beds were bunked, and one was a single. my roommates and i sort of worked out ahead of time who would be where so it wasnt too stressful on move in day. theres tons of floor space, a bathroom with a full bathtub, and a big closet with a door (this was a -16 room). I only saw one bad triple in Rubin, and it was still pretty livable. You will have more space than if you were in a double some places, like weinstein. two roommates is generally positive, because you are almost guaranteed to get along with at least one of your roommates. sometimes its frustrating because it feels like there's always someone in the room, but theres lots of places to chill if you need some alone time. if you want to give me your email or something i can send you pics of my room, if it would be helpful. lemme know if you have any more questions, im happy to answer.

can you email me the pics at

are the -16 rooms supposed to be biggger, and what does the dining hall look like?

hey yeah me too, to troxel317@yahoo.com

thanks, i really appreciate it!!!

please email pics to imscorpio6@aol.com and thanks for the info

The -16 rooms were the average size for a LCT triple in Rubin. Most were exactly the same, none were bigger, one or so per floor was smaller.

You can actually see pics of the Rubin dining hall here...

Or any other dining hall for that matter. They're kinda hard to describe.

Also- I forgot to mention (and in the email), I do know lots of people who de-bunked their beds. In the normal LCT room, it's possible to do. You barely have any floor space, but some people like to still have their own section of the room.

I've heard some pretty horrible stories about bunked beds as well.

Hmm, I would also like pictures of the LCT. You can send them to me at xtranquility@gmail.com

if you don't mind could you send me the pics too: cjb357@gmail.com

I'd appreciate those pictures as well, dacarez@gmail.com

Also, you could put them on a photobucket or something if you prefer :)

wow the dining hall at rubin looks nice and cozy.
can other students, living in other buildings, welcome to check in and eat at rubin or any of the dininal halls on campus? or are they only permitted to eat at their own dining hall

anyone can eat at any dining hall. at some of them, non nyu people could just walk in and pay cash as well (though theres really no reason to do that lol)

chicagojen- could you send me the pictures too?

illwritethemoral@yahoo.com

Could anyone forward the email she sent you??? I'm (surprinsingly) jaimelajolie@aol.com

I lived in Rubin in a low cost triple last year. While the rooms are not HUGE, they are definitely comfortable for three people. The windows are large and provide good views and light, the location is PERFECT (5th ave address? Yes!), and the dining hall is convenient. Not to mention, you'll save a bundle because they're the cheapest rooms available on campus.

Here are the down sides: The Rubin dining hall is not the greatest food, and it gets tiresome quickly. The smell sticks to your clothing, so warn your kids or take this advice: Never wear sweatshirts or coats into the Rubin dining hall, you won't be able to wear them again without copious washing.

Also, cockroaches. We had 3 in my bathroom over the last year because the ducts haven't been cleaned in (I'm guessing) about 20 years. However, we never had any mice, so that's a plus as I know a lot of people in other dorms who had some furry visiters over the year.

No AC. It gets HOT in August and September, so if you're going to be living in Rubin, BUY A FAN. You will sweat, it will be gross for probably the first month. During the winter, you WILL sleep with the windows open because they always keep the heat too high.

Despite these downfalls, I believe that, aside from U-Hall, which is way way expensive, Rubin is the best freshman dorm experience. I took a lot of pictures of my room from different angles, so if anyone is interested in them, send me a message and I'll send them to you. :)

thanks for all that info strawberry! :) And jen, thank you for the email!
