Ruckus rules?

I went to the DelaWorld day where they mentioned Ruckus for free online music through the Udel campus. I had some questions about it...

1) Can I use it now? (I have a UD email but technically haven't moved in yet)

2) Can I use it on my home comp even though I plan on using it later through a laptop that I will be purchasing?

3) What's the catch? I heard that the music is not permanent - is this right? Does it just disappear after a while? I don't understand this.

4) Can I put the music on my mp3 player - aka is this legal?

5) Kind of a combination of 3 and 4 - if I put it on my mp3 will the music also disappear?

My main question is if I can put it on my mp3 player - this might sound like a silly question to most of you but I am really new at this.

Thanks!

No, you cannot put it on an ipod type MP3 player. I believe the free account you get from the school won't allow you to put it on ANY MP3 player but I think you can upgrade your account and then you can put it on certain approved players. The catch is that you can't burn it to a CD(well you can if you know how, but generally it's illegal) or an MP3 player.... only from your computer.

As long as you have a Delaware e-mail account, I believe that you have access to Ruckus. You will be able to download and listen to music on your computer only whether you are within the campus network at the time or not. I suggest using mytunes redux once you get on the campus network.

Apparently you can get around the not being able to put it on mp3 players. There's some download that converts file types.

I'm going into my sophomore year at UD - nobody uses rukus... Apparently, you get something like a 30 day lease on the songs and you have to be on the UD network in order to renew that license, and that means either plugged in or wireless on the UD campus. Also, the selection sucks. Go limewire, and make sure you don't allow uploads, and don't download a ridiculous amount at a time.

Cheers,
Rich

Even though Ruckus isn't that great, I want to clarify that you can renew the songs when you are outside of the UD network.
