Rudeness to fellow CC'ers

In the past several days, I've witnessed incident after incident of CC'ers going out of their way to belittle, mock, and outright attack their fellow CC'ers. In some cases, the posts have been pulled, but in most cases the attacks have been ignored. I honestly don't understand it. You students all come here, I thought, to help each other navigate what can be a pretty rough journey. We parents come here for the same reason - to offer advice, to get help, and to offer each other - and you - moral support. It's the one place, from now through March and April, that we know we can find kindred spirits.

We're not all perfect. We sometimes say things that make us look foolish, we offer advice that turns out to be mistaken, we expose aspects of ourselves that perhaps we shouldn't. But none of us expects to be attacked or made fun of just because we joined this community. Bullying has no place here and none of us should tolerate it.

For those of you who think your grades or SSAT scores or (ultimately) your acceptances next March demonstrate your superiority, think again. For every qualified candidate who is accepted, there is another equally qualified candidate who isn't. It will be decades before you really know how successful you are - and then it probably won't be measured by any of the statistics you're relying on today. So give each other (and yourselves) a break.

Please think before you post. And if you see a post that's inappropriate, report it. We're here to help each other. Let's keep it that way.

great post, dodgersmom.

I didn’t think any moderators from CC actually read the prep school forums. Guess I was wrong. If anyone knows who they are, please name them. Thanks!

Thank you dodgersmom! Wonderful message.

ifax - I don’t know of any moderators actually follow this forum regularly, although I’m sure they check in from time to time, and I do know that if you click the link at the bottom of any post to “Report Problem Post,” they’ll look into it, and remove it if necessary. As for names, I think the moderators on this forum prefer anonymity . . . The moderator “names” are listed at the bottom of the main page for this forum, so you can see for yourself.

Great post.

If you all notice, at the bottom of each post, there is a link that says “report problem post” and this goes to the mods. I have only reported a few posts, mainly when someone was being an insulting ■■■■■. Often, it is most effective to either ignore the rude poster, or kill them with kindness.

neatoburrito…also a great post. I have stopped trying to be rational with irrational people. I just “Report Problem Post”.

Under “My Control Panel” (upper left) you can go and “ignore” the name.

I dont feed the ■■■■■■ and they sometimes just irritate me. I know they have posted but dont have to see their post.

FYI

I haven’t seen many outright attacks (though I’ve come upon a few). However, I’ve noticed that people seem to like to hide snide insinuations in seemingly passable posts.

I appreciate this a lot. Thanks

Just calling someone a “■■■■■” who is a contributor, just because you don’t like what they have to say is insulting. Let’s please try to avoid use of that horrible term. I don’t think anyone here is one.

dude, I totally agree with you, (though i couldn’t read the whole thing :stuck_out_tongue: )
but still, i agree with the heading…
