hey according to that poll, Obama doesn't seem to be that popular despite his great popularity on cc. Too bad cuz that's who id probably vote for if Giuliani doesn't run.

Yeah, he only managed 17%. I have noticed that he is very popular among younger voters, but no so popular amongst the older voters. They either question his experince (which is my main gripe w/him) or dislike the fact that he is a Muslim. His middle name being hussein doesn't exactly help him either.

Lol "Hussein" Obama also sounds a lot like Osama, which i find funny. IMO experience is overrated. Besides I like seeing fresh ideas and faces. Plus less experience usually means less corruption! But if u like experience Giuliani is not that bad despite what people say. Sure he might not have much with global issues, but NYC is not what I'd call a cakewalk either. Heck it's probably harder to run than half the states in the U.S.!!!!... combined!

My 75 yo mother says she could never vote for anyone with the name of Obama (she calls him Osama most of the time).

"Heck it's probably harder to run than half the states in the U.S.!!!!"

It certainly has more people than many of the U.S. states, as well as a large ethinc cross-section not seen anywhere else. Giuliani was able to unite a city filled with very different people.

"It certainly has more people than many of the U.S. states, as well as a large ethinc cross-section not seen anywhere else. Giuliani was able to unite a city filled with very different people."

Which is why he'd be perfect for global issues. Anyone know his stance on affirmative action? Since it's been such a hot topic on cc lately.

"Anyone know his stance on affirmative action?"

I'm not sure, but I'm willing to bet that he opposes it based on his attitude toward welfare. He doesn't believe in giving "handouts" to people. When he was mayor of NYC, he created welfare-to-work programs that were very successful. Under these programs, people got steady jobs instead of collecting welfare checks every month. Giuliani believes in self-help and hard work rather than begging and looking for others to do it for you. This philosophy isn't consistent with that of an AA supporter.

Awesome, cuz im asian and i absolutely hate AA, but lets not turn this into an aa thread. Well its settled i guess, i can't go wrong with Rudy!

Rudy Giuliani is pretty socially liberal. If I had to have a republican president, I would love one who didn't want to stake a claim on my uterus. Yes, that would be lovely. No one will ever enact my economic issues, except maybe a kibbutznik, and Bernie Sanders, and I've learned to accept that. A mayor of NYC should have a firmer grasp on America's social economic problems, I think, than a a poor little Connecticut-born-Texan rich boy, even if I disagree with his means.

This is coming from a progressive liberal. But don't talk to me about a Giuliani/Clinton showdown. That would make me cry. Cry, cry, cry for like 9 months. Cry. CRY.

So basically: there could be alot, lot worse republican candidates.

Giuliani would never make it past the primaries. I don't remember the last time the Republican Party ran a remotely moderate candidate for the Presidency, and Giuliani is a bit more than remotely moderate.

btw, Obama's not a Muslim.

sure he is. looks it to me, with a middle Hussein ,

This guy is ****ting on America even thinking he has the experience needed to run America. Id seriously rather al sharpton or jesse jackson, at least these men have been around and are realistic.

In his book, the Audacity of Hope, Obama explicitly talks about converting in the United Church of Christ; he was not raised religious, but eventually found it working in Chicago's poor areas. I believe his father was Muslim, but he didn't even really know his father anyway. Hussein in the arab world is like being Smith in the anglo-saxon world.

As if being Muslim is any reason to look down on him, either. That kind of reasoning is why America is becoming increasingly unpopular on the world stage.

Also on this issue, and Giuliani...would be nice to have a non-western European president. Even if he's still white, atleast a name like "Giuliani" is decidedly more ethnic.

Putting a democrat in office will be certainty for a draft of our youth. republicans have been fight this for a long time. So In general everybody will choose there own destiny. Not that I have a problem with a draft, Id gladly serve.

But Rudy has my vote, already joined a group to start support for him at my university. Even though I don't agree with some of the things he does, He is still worthy.

Electing Hilary is like saying thanks for the 2 terrorist attacks on the WTC, we all know they both came due to the negligence of the Clinton administration.

Im italian so Id vote for him if he were democratic, **** i support my people.

circuit: it is because of people like you that I am glad voting is NOT governmentally mandated, and I encourage you to sit at home on election day thinking you're far superior to vote for a candidate like Obama.

In response to the OP, I do like Guiliani, and this will be my first election, but I am not committed to voting for him yet. I am more liberal than conservative, and I am very open to considering most of the likely candidates. That being said, I very much like Guiliani as a person, and I see him of more than a politician. He reminds me of FDR.

"Putting a democrat in office will be certainty for a draft of our youth. republicans have been fight this for a long time. So In general everybody will choose there own destiny. Not that I have a problem with a draft, Id gladly serve."

That's a laughable claim. How are you substantiating this?

Do your research Kid,

easy enogh type democrats and draft in your favorite search engine,

I wont sit at Home, Il be out voting and trying to get people to vote republican.

"That's a laughable claim. How are you substantiating this?"

I'm not as pro-Republican as circuit, but he is right that it is the Democrats who want the draft. Just google search "Charles Rangel draft" and you'll find some stuff. Rangle is one of the main Dems in the House of Representatives and he has been supporting the draft for ages.

Rangel? Haha. Rangel doesn't want the draft.

He's trying to prove a point with that bill. The point being, that no congressmen want their children to be eligible to be drafted to go and fight a war, and wants to reiternate how the lower class individuals are constantly the ones serving in our military.

He never wanted that bill to be passed. When the republicans put that bill up for voting, he voted against it. He encouraged other democrats to vote against it. The democratic party as a whole does not want to institute the draft.
