I am a junior who is planning to apply for scholarships, my parents have been told many times by adults that there are many scholarships for those who are Hispanic/Latino. But I have not found many scholarships, So I need help! where can I find these scholarships to know this isn't a rumor. Thank you xx

You need to go to the Hispanic Students forum (under Admissions, Speciality Topics). Start with the Resources sticky thread which has links to scholarships for Hispanic students; also see threads on NHRP and other scholarships.

In the Resources sticky thread, also see information about diversity fly in opportunities and other topics.

My experience with scholarships for my AA son, is that a second qualifier was needed. Usually low income or first generation.

You will get a lot of scholarships offers from private colleges that values diversity if you have good grades and test scores. You may score more money if you craft a good list of colleges than applying for outside scholarships

Hispanic scholarships are a lot more real than the left-handed scholarships. They are out there.

“my parents have been told many times by adults that there are many scholarships for those who are Hispanic/Latino.”

I have Miami- and Houston-based family members who were full of the same sort of nonsense. Unless those people have themselves won such a scholarship, and can tell you exactly what you need to do to get this money, ignore them. They really, truly, don’t know enough to advise you well about this.

How did you do on the PSAT your junior year? You may quality for the National Hispanic Recognition Program. Some collleges give merit scholarship to NHRP applicants.

^I’m going to agree with happymomof1 here…I hear this kind of stuff all the time - “Oh, there are so many scholarships for Latino/African American students.” Actually, I read somewhere credible (but don’t remember where) that the vast majority of scholarships actually don’t have any racial/ethnic designators on them. There are some scholarships for Latino students, but not necessarily a whole lot, and the ones that do exist may not be enough to cover your entire cost of attendance.

Also, the scholarship for left-handed people is just as real, it’s just that there’s only one and it’s for a specific college - Juniata College. It’s also only about $1500.

It’s real, but to tell high school students their scholarships for left-handed people is a bit misleading don’t you think; especially, when it’s just for one school? Yeah…not buying it.

We didn’t have any luck. The Hispanic scholarships we found all had a need component.

The OP has not stated whether or not their family has financial need, nor the size of scholarships they are looking for. They need to go to the Resource thread cited and do their homework.

They also have not given even minimal stats which would help to direct them towards appropriate Institutional scholarships for Latinos/URMs/everybody.
