rumor

Hey, kids of 09, I thought I'd pose a question to you since you've been through admissions. Congrats, by the way, to all who've been accepted.

Here it is: At my high school, a medium public school in a nice suburban area, five students have applied to Georgetown ED and been rejected--not just deferred for admission, but rejected. I think, for the most part, their scores ranged from a 1350 to a 1450...there weren't any athletes in the bunch, and they were all healthy white females. Our counselor says that Georgetown doesn't accept you from a non-Catholic school unless your SAT's above 1500. Any validity to this statement? The reason I want to know is because my younger brother wants to go and he only has a 1390 on his SAT, 29 on the ACT, and it's kind of like "well, should be try ED, or is it just not worth it?"

Au secours!

Ummm no! I got a 1210 on my SATs, and I'm a freshman at Gtown right now, and I certainly did not go to a catholic HS. I know SOOOOO many ppl that had less than a 1500 and didn't got to Cath. HS. There are many other reasons why they didn't get in, I have to say that colleges, I think, accept ppl depending on how well they might fit in. Maybe they weren't meant to go to Gtown. I'm sure they'll still go to a great school.

pls describe resume. brother plays club lacrosse, varsity B-ball, and was VP of class sophomore year. Also co-founded our chapter of FCA. think he has a chance at ED or is it better to go RD?

Definitely apply EA. Georgetown doesn't have ED, so it's not binding. Also, for EA, you cannot get rejected. You either get accepted or deferred, and the acceptance rate is about the same for EA and RD.

I'm a US citizen living abroad, in Mexico, did MUN, Swimming, A LOT of theater, and was director of student volunteers at the Salvation Army. Had a pretty good GPA, 3.9. I'd recommend he applied EA, it's liek getting two chances, two different boards, I didn;t get in EA, but I did get in RD, I'm glad i did too, I feel like it imporved my chances.

Yeah... I got in EA and I don't go to a Catholic High school (1410 SAT).

So that's just a rumor.

I do know, however, that I was the only person who got accepted from my school, which was strange because there were so many other people who seemed more qualified.

Thanks, y'all. I guess our counselor was "just saying that" to take the edge off the ugly decisions. I will certainly pass along the info toute suite. Would definately be nice if Jus could get in before his second semester.
Farewell--this is prob my last post on the gerogetown string. Thanks for all who responded.

Well, I don't know if I'm any help since I was really close-1490. But I come form a public school and I put on the application that I'm muslim and the other girl from my school who got in was jewish, although her SAT score was really high.

If you do happen to look at this again hastellion, applying to Gtown EA is definitely not a waste because your bro can apply to other places EA as well. If your goal in applying early somewhere is to get in and have one in the bag, there are a ton of schools that are EA or rolling that he should be able to apply to as well and not be constrained by his application early to Georgetown.

I also just realized that I'm posting a week after this conversation ended.

I got in with a 1400 from a California public school.

Colleges actually expect lower SAT scores from public school kids, because we usually don't have access to SAT prep like most private schools do.

my brother got in with a 1380 sat..public high school also from a suburban school (long island). he had a 3.8 something gpa involved with a lot of clubs with postions and community things
