I already checked Bulletin in Columbia University website and it said for AP Bio, AP Econ, and AP Calc, if I get 5s, I will get credit for them.

However, students tell me that even though that is what the website says, I still can't get the credit when I actually ask for it in college. Is this true? or just a rumor?

My son got AP credit/placement preference in Calculus, Comp Sci, and Physics. He got the placement preference in his freshman classes, but did have to ask his advisor to have the credits (16.00, one in AP English…) applied after his freshman year and finishing the “advanced” courses successfully.

The Departmental information in the Bulletin seems to be correct…just check each department you are interested in.

It’s just one of those things you have to keep reminding the FYSAAC about (I think that’s the correct name now, First Year and Sophomore Academic Advising Center).

If you go in with an ORIGINAL (ie from Collegeboard) report of your AP test grades, they will usually apply them within a month. Some classes have the “take X course and pass with Y grade” requirement but not all.

It’s now one comprehensive advising center, the Center for Student Advising: [Center for Student Advising | Student Affairs](Center for Student Advising | Columbia College and Columbia Engineering).
