Running Out of Math and Science.

The prerequisite is precalculus. You need to take algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2 before precalculus.

I can’t speak for the difficulty level for “someone like you” because I don’t know you. I would encourage you to relax and enjoy middle school. Then relax and enjoy high school. Don’t worry so much about being ahead.

Hey, PurePhysics, when you get to high school (or even before if your school works that way) you will have a Counselor who will help you with classes and selection. Let them help you. There might be some advanced programs you don’t even know about yet. DE is a good option. Do you know about the Stanford on-line classes? For an 8th grader, you are way over-thinking this.

LOLOLOL @ YOU, PurePhysics. You’re an 8th Grader in this post, a 9th grader in another, and you were a 12th grader in one other! Shakes head

To be fair, this is from a year ago…

If you go to his page and find all of his posts you’ll see what I mean…

College classes are always semesters or quarters, though there can be classes, like general chem or physics, that have a I and II so it’s similar to a year-long course.

Also, yeah I’d recommend multivariable then diffyQ and linear algebra at a local university. After that, some kind of class that gets you used to proofs, then probably analysis, which is But really after calc it branches off and stops being a linear sequence, so if not after calc definitely after diffyQ and linear algebra you should talk to a math advisor at the university where you are taking classes and ask them.

Physics, I’m not as sure, but I think it goes general physics I and II, which both parts of AP Physics C should be similar to, then I think modern physics, then more in-depth mechanics and E&M. Though labs will be very hard to schedule, unless you can take a night lab (college does labs all the way through, so usually 3 hours straight). And it also branches out after…I think modern physics.

Chemistry… goes general chemistry (which AP may not get you out of), then organic. Though you’re going to have a tough time fitting labs into your schedule, just like physics.

Bio, I have no idea how the sequence goes or if there is a sequence after intro bio. And intro bio probably has labs as well.

Definitely talk to your GC in high school, though depending on your high school they may not have encountered anybody like you before and not know what to do. If they don’t, talk to the college, a place like Harvey Mudd will have had bright high-school students before, and if you’re taking college classes a college advisor is going to know best.

Also, don’t expect to take 4 college classes on top of 3-4 high school classes. College classes are much more involved and time consuming, which is why 4 or 5 is a full schedule. Or three 5-credit ones. One 5-credit class plus 4- 5 high school classes or something is enough, an intro class with labs is often 5 credits. And with baseball you probably can’t take a class with night labs in the spring, so keep that in mind, with rainouts and stuff you can have games any day of the week, doubleheaders on weekdays, etc. Though you live in a place that is much drier in the spring than I do, so maybe not.

Either way, don’t stress out too much. You’re way ahead already, so if you have to take an easy semester you’ll still be way ahead, and with a bunch of college classes you will have a strong application to college. (Think about it…if you take 3-4 classes at Harvey Mudd, and get A’s and B’s, if you apply there, you clearly have proven that you are good enough).

PurePhysics is supposedly an 8th grader in March 2012. . .

In March 2013, he’s supposedly a senior. Absolutely pathetic.

To PurePhysics credit, he probably would have liked everything to work out like he is describing.

Why are we bumping 2 year old threads.

@SwaggyC

Not sure, but you did just bump a 30 minute old thread. And I just bumped a 20 minute old thread.

In the grand scheme of things, is two years really all that much time?

This ■■■■■ guy is pretty interesting. I’ve been looking through his history.

lol I was convinced by his post as well and became a little jealous. Good thing he’s a ■■■■■.
