My D is a freshman in HS and considering doing Running Start her Jr & Sr years at our local CC. Has anyone had any experience with the transition to a traditional 4yr university? Im curious if theyve looked upon it favorably, negatively or indifferent. She feels like shes headed towards the medical field. Also, I'd like to know if students felt negative or positive about their time in RS. Thank you.

From everything I have heard, it’s usually looked on favorably because the only kids who get in are those looking for acceleration. They have to have the grades and HS permission to even attend. I know one girl who got into selective schools with an entire CC degree finished by the time she completed HS thanks to Running Start. She’ll be a grad student at 20 having started college as a junior as a result of RS.

sseamom- at a state U, private U or LAC? I had a similar question - my now 10th grade son is interested in running start next year. Big sis did IB diploma + AP credits, so a whole different set of stuff to learn about!

She was accepted at at least one of each but chose a large, state U due to getting the best financial aid there. The private LAC that was her 1st choice is one often mentioned on CC as a “dream school”.

That’s great!

I don’t think we have a program called that here. We have AP and Dual enrollment. My kids have taken advantage of both. We prefer the dual enrollment. Youngest will graduate HS with 59 college hours.

That’s good to hear, thanks for the information!
