Running XC (and track) in college

I am a sophomore in high school right now, and I’m running a usual 18:40 5k for xc. Last year, my freshman year, I ran a 10:45 3200 meter PR for track and usually ran a 19:10 5k for xc. I’m in a small school that has a chance of making the state opens the next couple years.

So, I’m thinking about running in college at a D3 school. Where would I be on the team and could I expect to make the team? And additional info would be helpful… Thx☺

Also, I would want to go to a very hard-to-get-into LAC, as I have the test scores, grades, and extra curriculars to get in. I am taking calc this year as a sophomore to give you an idea.

Pull up the rosters from the schools you are interested in and look at times to compare to. Your times should drop significantly over the next 1-2 years, and you can take a look at what you should be working toward

There is just a very wide range of schools. With the same performance you might be talking some scholarship one place and just squeaking onto the squad at another. That’s why it might be best to consider your academic plans first and then match that up with an appropriate team.

Once you have some ideas, you should go to their website and look up some of the times for their recent competitions.

You can also contact the coach and maybe find out what the turnout pace is to get some idea of what your goals are.

Sub-17:00 X-C 5K as a Sophomore, sub-16:00 as a Senior and sub-10:00 on the 3200 as a Soph garnered some D3 interest.
