Rural Hook?

Is being from a rural high school a hook? My high school has a total of around 200 students, with no AP or honors classes, sending no top students to Ivies, ever. Would this be a hook in college admissions? A friend from a competitive high school told me that this would be a hook, but I'm not convinced.

The socio-economc level of your rural area could be an assist (if you're building a strong application despite a lack of local resources).

It isn't a hook, but it's helpful, especially if you were able to distinguish yourself despite the adversity of the situation.

Well, I wouldn't call my situation adverse, but it's certainly very different from the situations of most students on CC. I'm just wondering if this could backfire because my SAT/ACT scores may not be as high. I'm thinking it will be very difficult for me to get, say, a 2150 on the SAT, which is considered the bottom end for Ivy admissions.

not really, bottom end would be like 2000. and its difficult for anybody to get in, regardless of SAT scores
