I am an incoming first year at the college and I plan on going through sorority rush this fall. I’m very nervous- I read on the maroon that there are only 160 spots and around 200 people rush. Do most people who rush (sororities) get in? I come from a huge frat fan and I’ve always wanted to be in a sorority but I’m afraid I’m not good enough. DG is my top choice. If anyone can give info on what it’s like and what I can do to improve my hanged, that would be wonderful. Thank you.
*fam not fan
Is rush actually competitive at UChicago now? Can any current students verify this? I thought Greek life (And must clubs) at Chicago were basically sign up and join - if you want to participate, you could.
I am kind of amazed that with an 8% admission rate you can still get people with this level of analytical skill.
Easy @JHS …
Ok. I am triggered!!! My entire body is shaking, mouth is dry, heart rate has gone through the roof, my body is on fire…
Wait maybe it is just the weed…,
@pupflier are you okay?
@Cue7 Rush is not an everyone gets in thing though I think some rushees drop out during the process. There are many clubs (mostly academic) that students must apply for and not all are accepted.
I think its the weed…
@JHS that statistic was from 2014. The number of girls who rush fluctuates sometimes, and I wanted to know from someone who perhaps had a more recent rush experience as to whether or not most (as in nearly all, not roughly 75%) girls get in. You can’t judge someone’s intelligence or analytical skill by a quick post on CC. Your comment was rude and unnecessary.
Yes. Rude and unnecessary, guilty as charged. I am sorry about that. Please be assured that (a) if we ever meet, your post won’t factor in to what I think about you, (b) we are probably never going to meet, so it won’t matter, © if by some chance we did meet, I would have no idea you were oxfordgirl123, and (d) if, crazily, we met and I did know that, I would be bending over backward to make up for being a jerk to you on a message board once.
That said, I still think it was pretty funny when you quoted the 160/200 information – that’s 80%, by the way, you can look it up – and then asked if “most” women got in. Also, when you read stuff like that, you can consider that not everyone who participates in sorority rush (and thus gets counted in the denominator) actually wants to join a sorority when it’s over. Women drop out of rush, or decline offers when they find out what’s involved. The 160/200 ratio may not mean that more than a handful of women (if that) were really disappointed.
Anyway, you’re probably there now. You’ve probably talked to people in the sororities you care about. So you probably have a much better answer than you could get here.
@oxfordgirl123 Spoken with spirit and gumption! Keep those qualities sharpened as you go through college at the U of C.
@JHS We’ve all let our lust for a bright quip run away with us. Knowing your helpful presence on the board, I figured you must have had regrets even before you owned up, but I applaud your doing so anyhow. Even great Homer nods.
