I am 99% sure I want to join a frat. Is it better to rush right away in the fall, or wait a semester and rush in the spring?

You should definitely go out for rush in the fall. Even if you don’t decide to join a house until the spring (or ever), it’s a great experience to have, and you’ll meet a lot of chill guys.

how about sororities? I’m not sure whether if i want to join a house…
and how will i know which one is the best place for me ? plus, is there a competition among sororities to be the #1 house on campus? Im just curious because im an international and i dont have the chance to visit the campus and see the greeklife myself.

Thanks!

nilufer,
Sororities only have formal rush in the fall. There is no formal spring recruitment. In your case, as an international, it might be better to wait a year and decide if this is a good choice for you.

Coming from a different culture you will have so many adjustments to the U.S., college, academic pressures and other issues. It might be best to wait. Also, there are extra expenses involved which should be considered.

If you are from Canada this might be an option for you to explore.

nilufer,
Actually, Sigma Delta Tau and Alpha Chi Omega (sororities)both do informal spring recruitment, if that is something you might be interested in. However, you only get to check out that one particular sorority, and not all, like you can do in the Fall.

And I wouldn’t say there is competition to be #1. I guess there is a hierarchy of the “best” houses, but honestly, I haven’t heard anything bad about any. Sig Delt, for example, is only a few years old, so it would be hard to be “the #1”
