Hey guys i am frm India(though i dont belong here). I hav taken a gap yr to apply to US univs as i had a expired passport last yr due to which culdnt apply and 'twas too late by the time i got them.

So i hav --»

Low GPA (Not IB, Some Goddamn Indian State Board)

Excellent SATs 2400 on SAT I
and 2390 in SAT subject tests ( Math II Phy Chem)

No ECs!! What shld i do this yr. I am going to take Java dev exams, doing CIMA CBA... The question is what else to impress the adcom of Colgate, Amherst and other univs?? Pl help!!

Want advice also frm ppl who hav applied and got into these univs.

Thnx,
Krishna.

Honestly Java dev exam is worthless, speaking as a CS student. It’s primarily for employment and I doubt colleges care about it (its not even that effective for employment either). Just go make a Java application and release it to the public to get some support. That will be more impressive than just earning some useless certificate.

How low is a low GPA? And what did you do during your gap year? What do you plan to study? How much can you afford to pay?

And remember, ECs can be anything you enjoy and put a lot of time and effort into-and ideally have achieved some level of competence as a result. They don’t have to be school clubs or organized activities. Even working is good. Adcoms want to know what you’ll contribute to their community and who you are besides being another good student.

First of all thanks to melody10511 and M’s Mom for takin’ the effort to giv me advice. I totally agree with u melody10511 and i will NOT tak dev examz BUT as i hv self learnt java, so i hv almosy finished learning Android too. So i guess as u told i will develop some apps. And M’s mom as my grades are low here(Indian board) i thought i can complete A LEVELS for a qulification so that i stand a chance in the gpa. By the gpa is at 3.5 or 3.6 i guess (converted frm %) . So A levels is basically the same syllabus and i can complete it by Nov. Work exp is a corrrct choice but where and what work??? Anyway thanks for the input.

Good day to u both,

Regds,
Krishna.
