Rush

So I'm rushing this fall and I have no idea what to expect in terms of how rushing works. So can anyone tell me the process, dress code, and anything else I'll need to know?

I am guessing you mean sorority recruitment and not fraternity.

<a href=“Fraternity and Sorority Life”>Fraternity and Sorority Life;
lots of good info here

<a href=“Fraternity and Sorority Life”>Fraternity and Sorority Life;
info on all sororities and frats. Starting with page 76 is explains what to wear each day. DO NOT OVER DRESS. It will be HOT HOT HOT.

During the first round, shorts and a nice top is fine, just like it says. If skirt or capris look casual and stay cook. Wear COMFORTABLE sandals. NO HEELS. Next round is a skirt or capris, but still casual with sandals and stay cool. Third round is sundresses and they can be casual with sandals on wedgesl. On the final day, pref day, a nicer dress but NOT FANCY and aim for something NOT HOT. Wedges or heels but remember you will still be walking in the heat to different houses. Dressy cotton would work well, as would wedges. NO PANTYHOSE are needed, ever. And they are HOT HOT HOT. It says no pantyhose and they mean it. Too hot and unnecessary.

HERE IS MY REVISED POST. It took too long for the computer to take it so I just made a new one.

info on all sororities and frats. Starting with page 76 is explains what to wear each day. DO NOT OVER DRESS. It will be HOT HOT HOT.

During the first round, shorts and a nice top is fine, just like it says. If skirt or capris look casual and stay cool. Wear COMFORTABLE sandals. NO HEELS. First round is two days and you visit all sororities.

Next round is a skirt or capris, but still casual with sandals and stay cool. You will visit up to 11 sororities over two days based on your interest and their interest.

Third round is sundresses and they can be casual with sandals on wedges. You will visit up to 7 houses. Still casual dresses and stay cool. This is all on one day.

On the final day, pref day, a nicer dress but NOT FANCY and aim for something NOT HOT. Wedges or heels but remember you will still be walking in the heat to different houses. Dressy cotton would work well, as would wedges. You will visit up to a max of 3 houses.

NO PANTYHOSE are needed, ever. And they are HOT HOT HOT. It says no pantyhose and they mean it. Too hot and unnecessary.

Each round are visits that last longer than the round before, where you get to know more of the members, and learn more of their interests. Get LOTS of sleep when you can. Drink lots of water. Don’t forget to eat. And remember it is as stressful on the sorority sisters as it is on the potential new members. It is just a stress packed week. But it is fun, and even if you do not decide to complete the process, you will meet lots of new friends, both freshman and upper classmen.

You will be assigned to a Rho Gamma and a group. Every day you will meet with your group and your Rho Gamma will be like a rush counselor. She is not allowed to tell you her sorority affiliation, and will be there to answer questions and help you through each step of the way. She can have no contact with her sorority during pre-rush or rush. There are like 4-5 girls from each sorority that went through training for this, and they all work with the potential new members and not their sorority until bid day, when they rejoin their sorority to meet the new members.

Last year there were about 1500 girls who signed up for rush, and there are probably 100 girls who drop out after each round because they just don’t think that a sorority is for them, or they get frustrated by the process.

If you want to join a sorority there is one for you. You may have an idea of where you belong after the first round, but that might not be one of the three houses you visit on the last day. Keep an open mind. And understand that there is lot of labeling and pigeon-holing of different groups that are not true. But labels and rumors die hard. There is little difference between groups, and in a year, you will be closer to your sisters that you ever imagined, if you pledge and initiate.

I went Greek, and never regretted it. My daughter did as well. At the time my D rushed at FSU, my sorority was not on campus, so there was no pressure for her as a legacy.

My D was rushed heavily by a sorority that, in the beginning, she did not think was the one for her. But somehow they seemed to know she would be a great fit. She knew they really wanted her. In the beginning, she just kept them on the list. But by the last day, she felt this strong pull. And that is where she ended up. And the group she cried over not being asked back about halfway through, she now knows that she would never have been happy there.

Just go with an open mind, and try not to listen to anyone else’s choices and opinions. There will be freshman in your group who think they know it all about each chapter. And they don’t.

i have a quesiton. Should we bring purses?

See what they tell you the first day when you meet with your Rho Gamma and they explain things to you. I think many girls just carry one of those little things that you can put your FSU card in and your room key on the key ring. Vera makes them and they are very popular with girls on campus, and they are only $8-10, less on sale. A small shoulder bag is another option so you don’t have to carry it. I think they call them messenger bags–also popular and you can find them for not a lot.
