So I wanted to rush my freshman year, but I thought that it was too expensive/none of my friends were doing it. But, I have regretted not rushing and I want to rush as a sophomore. I was just wondering what the process would be like rushing as a sophomore. Is it harder to get bids? Are there sororities that take sophomores at Umich? Will it be weird because I'm a sophomore and my pledge class would be mostly freshmen? Ahhh I don't know if I should do it or not!

If you keep an open mind and not fall into the tier trap, there are chapters at Michigan that will take sophomores. There is also a sorority recolonizing a previously closed chapter this fall. Recolonizing chapters are very likely to take women from all classes because they don’t want an entire chapter of freshman who will all graduate simultaneously. They want some balance. Being a member of a colony is a very different experience but as an upperclassman, there will be opportunities for leadership more immediately also. Explore all of your options! Go through formal recruitment and if you don’t get options you want, try for the new colony. Again though, keep an open mind and know that none of it is guaranteed- even the colony. Although the colony will accept women from all classes, it is not necessarily easier to get into.

The recolonizing process is a little different in that it will take place after the regular recruitment, and then there will be interviews, usually by alumni, so it is not a traditional rush process.
