I don't get it. Is the idea that you rush freshman year and move into the house sophomore year? ...Or do you just rush your sophomore year w/ the intent to move in (assuming you are accepted)?

Sorry if I'm so clueless haha.

Rush simply means that you are getting used to the houses and waiting for a bid. if you get a bid, then you may accept or decline it and if you accept it you become a pledge. you go through pledgeship and then are initiated as a brother if you make it through. The only fraternity that allows freshman to live in the house is Phi Gamma Delta.

^ He’s right

Does anyone know how bad the frat hazing is at IU?

It depends on the house and you’ll never get a straight answer because it’s all very secretive, but some pledgeships are far worse than others.

Well, I am greek. A big significant amount of rumors spread by people not in the greek system is simply not true. Why don’t you rush and experience it yourself? You rush freshman year.

ELizaB is right, stuff does happen, it’s just hush hush. From what I’ve heard, sometimes they take away pledge’s meal cards, make them dance all night, etc. Also, standard routine stuff for them are study tables, cleaning up after parties, driving, taking notes, etc, so it’s not all bad. Some of the situations I’m sure are uncomfortable, but its all part of bringing people together in those tough situations and ‘bonding’ so to speak.
