Russian flagship program, double major and units cap

My daughter fell in love with UCLA and particularly its Russian flagship program. However, she also wants to do a double major, either Econ, or IR, PoliSci, etc. However, I read somewhere that double-major with flagship program is pretty difficult because flagship program involves a lot of units and there is a unit cap for UCLA undergrad. Is this correct? Can someone explain in more details?

Also, D is currently taking some classes at community college through dual enrollment to get some of the GE out of the way. By the end of the senior year, she might have about five classes (15 units) completed. Does anyone know whether these DE classes would simply get rid of the GEs, or would she also get the units for these classes, and would those units count towards the cap? Thanks!

Only classes at Ucla will negatively count towards the cap. She will be fine. Welcome to Ucla!

Thanks for replying! She is still a sophomore, but likes to plan ahead. My worry is that she is an “all or nothing” kid and flat out refused to consider UCI because their Russian department wasn’t vibrant enough (and comparing it to UCLA the next day didn’t help). Instead, she decided cc → UC transfer would be her safety, but if she goes that route, cc units will count towards the cap, correct? Also, and I know it may be a silly question, are there specific cc’s with guaranteed transfer to UCLA for kids maintaing certain GPA? Thanks in advance!
